View Full Version : Vltor Mod Stock sling attach?

How do you attach a sling to the Vltor Mod Stock w/o using a sling swivel?

Can you attach it thru the slot on top alone or does it need to somehow run thru the slot and around the stock?

I suppose you could run the sling through the slot on top only but I doubt that would hold up very well. A sling not mounted with a swivel should be run through the slot just above the swivel socket, around the stock, and through the slot on top.

popo has it right.

you can't see the slot with the battery tubes installed. You can see it in this pic though.

Thats what I figured, but my VCAS won't go around the battery tubes, so I thought Maybe there was a solution I was overlooking.

You have to wrap it through, or if its a cord adapter you can run it through the bottom slot and out the swivel hole

Push it through and use the buckle to keep it from coming back. Like this

I had done the push thru using the buckle to anchor, but with all the plastic buckle gizmos on the VCAS sticking "strait" out into the cheek pathway b/c of the batt compartments holding it all out sideways. I guess I'll use the top slot (carefully) for my MultiGun shoot this weekend until I get a swivel:confused:

Thanks for the help

Try different stuff, 550 if necessary. Until my wife's QD mounted sling arrived, my low-speed 550 gizmo got the job done comfortably, and kinda made the shiny new QD piece seem like a waste.

Can you take a picture of this? I can't, for the life of me, figure out what would be causing your trouble. You should be able to strip the tail down until it's nothing but webbing and one slider. Push the webbing through the slot, through the slider, back through the slider, and back through the slot. If you keep one slider further down the webbing you can secure the tail of the sling with it.

Here is the proper way to install as per directions

Here is what my head & cheek are competing with

Here I rig it the same, but on strongside of stock &...

And it always ends up slipping behind butt of stock and I mount into buckles
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/rr280/45Fundi/IMG_4389.jpg

Here I try and thread the webbing thru slot and around thru top slot, no work too short

using a QD swivel in the swivel hole isn't much better.

I personally do not think QD swivels are very "QD" and do not trust them to not get gummed and stuck in or not able to re-insert in dusty/sandy environments, so I was hoping the QD buckles on the VCAS would work.

Gotcha. I don't use the buckles or the QD swivels anymore. I just thread the sling itself through the stock. If I use a buckle at all I put it at the front.

I'm gonna run a single point till I grow some brains and figure out the best way to run the Vickers. Thanks for all the help:)

You've got the sling installed backwards. The quick detach is supposed to be in front, not in the rear.

The BFG instructions show the quick detach in the rear.

hmmm; it would appear Ashley redesigned the sling. I have 10 of the VCAS slings on various long guns and all of them have the detach in the front.

If thats how the slings come now, I'd either flip the sling around or just drop the detach point.

The instructions with the sling show it attached in the rear and BlueForce's Video shows to specifically put the QD in the rear

I'm going to come up with something custom b/c I want the whole sling front and back to come off quickly:confused:

Right now I just need to figure out which sling "works" for me and then designing/customizing QD contacts should be easy and something not to sweat over. I just figured something was wrong that it did not work (for me) with a Vltor Modstock.

Thanks

NCPatrolAR,

You are correct, there was a redesign. Slings use to come from the factory with the quick detach buckle up front. Now they come with the QD buckle on the rear portion of the sling.

Hope this helps. Note, no buckle on the rear. Best bet, IMHO, is to either attach it at the front or use a QD pushbutton at the front.

Thanks Rob your info is always VERY much appreciated.

I'm going to go with the QD swivel sans QD buckles on rear (for now) and Jerry-Rig an attachment to the FSB (suggestions welcome:confused:) until I get my other gadgets.

I have a Noveske N4 Light Basic Carbine which I plan on putting an Omega 7 w/ a VFG (Tango or Troy...leaning to Troy right now), Noveske QD Receiver Plate and then an offset light (SF M2) and either an Aimpoint M4s or T1 and be done. And run both Single Point & 2 Point for specific mission.

My only twist on that is I've discovered the front sight is 6 inches too close for sharp focus  and somedays I think I should chop the FSB and put a longer rail with a Troy HK style sight and increase the sight radius for my eyes.

First multigun comp this weekend wish me luck...or give me advice ;-)
