I was spending some time checking out the local gunshops and pawnshops when I came across a brand new G19 for $440. I'm not sure on the generation, but it did not have finger grooves on the grip and it came in the tuppeware box. THe gun also included two hi-caps. Is this a worthwhile purchase?

First or second generation new old stock. A new G19 for 440.00 is a great deal. That wouldn't last 10 minutes in the shops here in SW Fl. I would have bought it already

IMO, if it has the rails, buy it. You can always upgrade the box later if you don't like tupperware. :D

With help from The_Katar, I think am looking at a gen 1 since it lacks a rail(unless I misunderstood him). Apparently the story is just that someone bought the gun a while back, never used it, and sold it to this store. I'm having a tough time deciding on getting it because I have been considering a CCW gun, I have been trying to roll back on my gun spending and instead devoting a little money to gear(mag pouches, slings, etc) and just genrally saving money.

Oops, I was wrong. It would be a gen 2. Thanks Gentoo.

imho, no finger grooves is a good thing, and, so i actually specifically avoid 3rd gens and look for 2nd gen glocks.

$440 for a new 2nd gen G19, is a very good price, imho, especially with the extra mag. if it happens to have night sights on it, that is a steal.

unless you specifically want a rail, i would say it is a very worthwhile purchase.

I just bought a lightly used Gen 2 yesterday for a bit less, but I would be sore tempted for a new one at that price today.

That's a fair price, but nothing special in your market. G19s can be in slim supply at times, so it may be worth it to you.

Note: If you're LE/mil/gov/public safety/security, the price you will pay for a G19 w/FS from a LE stocking dealer is $395.

Get any G-19 you can.

I'd see if they would come down to $400-420 cash price and snag it

Generation II Glock 19s suffered from phase III malfunctions due to frame flex when fired. This is one of the reasons Glock went to the stronger less flexing framed third generation pistol. This is information that I personally gleaned from the NYPD Outdoor Range. Here are a few links that will assist in your decision.
