View Full Version : Anyone CCW a 1911 Govt with a Weaponlight?

Greetings,

My usual carry pistol is a fullsize 1911. I like the idea of having a weaponlight attached to a carry pistol.

Does anyone actually conceal carry a fullsize 1911 with a weaponlight attached? Is it practical considering the weight and size on this weapon/light combo?

Thanks!

i've CCW'd some big ass guns.. USP full size, 1911, etc.. never with a light, but having gone big without any issues, i'd think you could do it. just have to have the right shirts/jackets lined up

Not a 1911 but I've carried my issued M&P with attached TLR off duty most of the time, in a Raven Phantom. I"ve got a Desert Warrior that I've also carried a lot, except I don't have a Phantom for it yet.
It does seem to be a little more comfortable IWB w/o a light but overall it's not a big deal.

I do carry a full size and do not carry it light attached.

May I ask what holster you use?

RCS Phantom for 1911 with X300.

A Galco (model escapes me) and BladeTech for my non rail 1911

Kevin, you mentioned in another thread using an RCS Phantom for a 1911 with a Dawson rail/light mounted. Do you have pics of that rig?

Thanks

I dont have any pics here -- I will see if I can snap some after work.

Kevin / others - does the Dawson Rail require a different holster? Or can a leather holster stretch to accomodate the rail?

TIA

It'd be a big package depending on your size.

That's what she said.

But seriously, anyone have pics or a RCS Phantom IWB with a 1911 and a light?

I also carry a Govt 1911 with a X300 in an RCS Phantom. I took some pictures. Concealing the actual pistol is the difficult part and I think adding the light doesn't make it really any harder. I didn't change my clothes and obviously basic CCW tactics would apply when doing this and I would never carry in public in a small T-shirt like this. Also I'm ditching the snap loops for some C-Clips I have ordered which should help cut down the profile on the belt line a little more. I prefer to keep it on my side where my muscle memory is, but I know a lot of people like to appendex carry or put it more around back, with a larger pistol this will be even more uncomforable. I used to carry a full sized USP also and like that I think the hardest part is keeping the end of the grip/magwell area from sticking out, especailly if your bending over or squatting like you may do in a grocery store or video rental place. Hope this helps a little. :)

Paladin, thanks for posting those pics. I must say that is the beneficial post I have seen regarding the RCS Phantom and a 1911 w/light carried IWB. Well done.

I tend to carry IWB at 4:00 for traditional IWB and I am starting to use 1230 appendix for smaller pistols, but obivously that would not be applicable here. I think the Phantom would "tuck in" better at 4:00. I really am not a fan of "concealment garments" (ie the "shoot me first/look at this dork" safari vest) so allowing for better concealment is a priority for me. Still though it's pretty darn good for a full size pistol with a light.

Sorry for druging this post up.

Does anyone know if the RCS above will fit a Dawson Railed 1911 w/x300 as well?

I sent RC an email to try to confirm...waiting for them to get back..

I cc a 1911, but I just can't get into pistol lights... yet... Some of these pics might get me to reconsider, though... https://www.m4carbine.net/images/icons/icon14.gif
