I recently purchased a Colt Match 6400 that was listed as 556/223. I noticed that the lower receiver was stamped 223 but the barrel is stamped 556. I found an image of the LE which has a lower receiver marked with 556 however.

I was wondering if it was safe to fire 556 out the rifle even though its marked 223. Also, other than the stamp, are there other differences between the rifles that I failed to take into account before I purchased it?

i'm not familiar with either of these weapons, but i know that the stamp on a colt barrel is what tells you what the actual chambering is. if the barrel is marked 556, that's what counts.

My former CR6724 was stamped 5.56 NATO. Bought new in 97-98...

I own a Colt MT6400C, it's a great rifle but it has the AWB equipment installed for people who live in ban states(pinned comp, pinned stock, 9 round mag, no bayo lug). It is a quality AR made by colt and it's in 5.56 . You can fire the .223 or 5.56 without any worries. The 6920 is the same rifle without the ban features.

I had it out over the weekend and love it. Now all I need are some optics....:D

All Colt barrels are chambered for 5.56 so fire away.
