View Full Version : Mk 18 upper...who makes the real deal? Colt or LMT
I've been thinking about making a replica M4 w/ a Mk 18 upper. Who is the original manufacturer for the Navy's Mk 18 upper? Colt or LMT
Colt was the original contracted company but the Gov't has purchased LMT's as well.

Lots of info here, Navy Mk18 Mod 0 (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=271832). You can also order a back issue of Small Arms Review that has an article on the Navy Mk 18 Mod 0, Vol. 11 No. 7 - April 2008 (https://secure.longmountain.com/product_info.php?cPath=23_28&products_id=1033&osCsid=9f99e4f902df675d6a22e36720f81961)

Colt, LMT.........and if I recall correctly DD.
Crane sends DD cut down Colt barrels & LMT barrels for assembly.

Colt supplies the vast majority of these barrels/uppers.
Most barrels are Colt 14.5" cut down barrels.
Some are Colt factory 10.3" barrels.

There is speculation about LMT supplying parts, but as far as I know the only validated source for barrels and uppers is Colt.
damn i love the info i pick up in here. THANKS...
What mount does the Navy use with the aimpoint? Larue or Wilcox?

I have never seen them with a LT mount. Generally speaking, the USN is pretty well locked in with KAC and Wilcox.

The Wilcox is the standard mount.
