View Full Version : Folding Stocks for Bolt Guns
Besides the AICS* and the McMillan folding stock systems, who else makes a quality folding stock for a Remington 700 Short Action?
*I already have a gun in an AICS but it's too heavy for the build I have in mind.

sinister,
Thanks for the heads up. This stock has almost everything I'm looking for.
Dave
What's up Dave, you are not liking the folder you got on your GAP build?
I was JUST looking at pictures of your GAP folder thinking of doing something like this too. What do you like not like?

I love my AICS, but it's heavy and I was thinking about doing a very light weight compact bolt gun build and wanted a bit lighter stock with the same features.
I also have a 300 WINMAG in the works, and after seeing this TACMOD SCS stock, I think "I need it".
It's a Remington 700 SS 5R in 300 WINMAG. It just got back from GAP; I had a Badger bolt knob, Badger Recoil Lug, and Badger Thruster Brake installed.
Nice. I am thinking of moving on a GAP build and I like some of the features you chose, but I also like the Crusader as it sits too. Too many decisions. I look forward to seeing some shots of your 5R 300 when you get to it. Great gun.

No prob. I don't get back state-side for another month and a half. Besides the mentioned upgrades GAP did, I also have Night Force light weight rings and their 20 MOA scope base to go on it. I'll be ordering a NightForce 3.5-15X50mm ZS MLR to go on it.
Also thinking about Walter Birdsong's Black-T or Green-T coating (http://www.snipercentral.com/birdsong.htm) for it.
Dave,
That T-Coat looks really nice. I like the green with the black.

Now my understand was that you couldn't get a McMillan folder unless they built it - is that still the case?
I too am wanting to do a 16" to 18" with a folder. Please post what you find / know

Seeing that you are aware of some of the specs on the sniper rifle, any chance you have any info on the spotter's rifle, the AR10...I tried to get some good looks at it by pausing on my DVR but just couldn't tell. To me it definitely did not look like a Knights SR25 or an M110.
It's one of six AR-10Ts modified by the AMU Custom Gun Shop.
It has a Superior Weapons System Sniper Rail (designed by both Art Gonthier and the AMU) and a JP brake. The A2 stock is swapped out with an A1 stock and it has a Geissele High Speed trigger.
Standard Armalite barrels were swapped out with better cut-rifled barrels cut to 22 or 20-inches (depending on suppressor or brake -- Jason preferred the brake for follow-on shots on movers).
Originally we had GG&G 20 MOA cantilever rails on top with Leupold M3LRs, but Jason replaced his with a USO with EREK knob to go from 100 to 1000 in one turn.
Mine will shoot a 2.91 inch 10-shot group at 300 Meters.
Sinister,
Thanks for the info
