Just wondering what mag pouches you all use? I bought a Blackhawk kydex one for my 228 and I am not that fond of it. I feel that it has a lot of extra plastic, and doesn't secure well on my belt.

I am considering the one from Comp-tac with Tek-Lok. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I like the standard Comp-Tac mag carrier (The slip on kind). IMHO it is the most comfortable and easy to use mag carrier out there. I do not carry anything else anymore. I'm not a big fan of the tek-lock system (either Comp-Tac or Blade Tech) as it makes the mag carrier too bulky.

I'm actually not a big fan of the comp tac slip on mag carrier. While it's comfortable and easy to put on/take off, it prints more than my gun does.

I would recommend Raven's mag holder. It literally hugs your body and keeps the mag in extremely tight. It's also contoured to the shape of your body so it doesn't stick out at all. You can convert it to a pocket mag carrier too by ordering wing attachments instead of belt loops so you can put the mag in your rear pocket and it stays upright and stable.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I wish I had enough money to try many different ones to find the one I really like. I will go ahead and take out the Tek-Lok because that is the problem I have with the Blackhawk version.

Thanks Marc, posted without seeing your post. Which one would you recommend for my double stack mags (228)?

What's the turn around on those custom carry mag holders?

+1. That's what I use, obviously (Rich made the originals for me). Last I heard, CCC was getting caught up on backorders and so they're turn around time may be a few weeks if they don't have what you need in inventory.

I'll vote for the Raven ones...they really are VERY thin and you can run them OWB or IWB with your choice of belt attachment methods.

I just picked up one of these (http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/magholders.html), which should be in my hands in a couple weeks. Hoping it works, because I'm tired of carrying a spare mag in the pocket. I'm willing to give an IWB mag pouch a shot, since I don't wear a whole lot that will help conceal an OWB mag pouch. The other one I'm interested in is a Tucker Gunleather IWB mag pouch (http://rlcompanyusa.stores.yahoo.net/siiwbmapo.html).

Hello,

For my mag carrier's, I use Rusty Sherrick's Double Mag Carrier, it's at the top of this page. http://www.c-rusty.com/pages/other%20prod/magcariers.html

I love my comp-tac holsters, but the tek-lok stuff (from Blade Tech) that I have used in the past both on holsters and mag pouches has given me trouble. In my experience the screws loosen up and vanish.

I use leather mag pouches for CCW.

First, I believe it is very important to carry a spare mag. Not just for the extra ammo, but for the possibility of a catastrophic mag failure. Such as the baseplate going south and spilling all ammo on the deck. I've experienced this several times at a match.
I carry a 5" 1911 IWB at 4 O'clock. I carry my wallet in the left rear pocket.
Many times, my spare mag presents more difficulties than my gat as far as comfort and cocealment.
The ONLY truly concealable and comfortable mag carrier I have used is the angled version from HBE Specialty Leatherworks. It allows me to access my wallet and sit in the drivers seat in comfort.

I like a mag-carrier that is as simple and low profile as possible. I also prefer them to be made of leather, leave a bit better than half of the magazine exposed, and snap on/off of the belt if possible.

Along those lines, the mag-carrier I find myself using the most is the SSPC from John Ralston at 5 Shot Leather...

Get a Velcro duty belt keeper and you can keep a spare horizontal on your belt @ the 11 O'clock. Cost you $2 bucks, more comfortable than any holder and fast. Just my .02

Another recommendation for Raven Concealment. I've been using there stuff for approximately two years over here and invariably I get stopped and asked about it. A number of DS agents, guys on the Ambassador's Protective Detail and others have gone on to buy there own rigs from Raven.

Not only does it have a low profile, it's comfortable as well.

I've been very pleased with both the vertical and horizontal pouches from Wilderness; I've used them very satisfactorily for years. See www.thewilderness.com

Little gravedigging here, sorry...

Should I go with a double mag holder or two singles? I also carry a leatherman/flashlight combo pouch, about the size of a verticle cellphone case. Two IWB singles may work well in that case...recommendations?

(Double stack 9mm FYI)

Since there's so many heavy hitters on this thread - do any of you carry a mag/light combo pouch and/or do your recommend them? If not, what do you recommend as a good Surefire G2 holder in addition to your choice of mag pouch?

I recently won a G2Z and they also threw in the hard plastic vertical pouch. I've been wearing it most of the month now and I really like it.

In a mag pouch I've mostly used a Kramer double pouch when I carried the S&W 5906 and a Galco double pouch with my M&P and Glock 19. I've never used one but don't care for the idea of a mag/light combo pouch, I'd rather have the second mag and put the light elsewhere.

I find the 6P/G2 lights to be too large for concealed carry purposes.
I use a single mag pouch and an E2E clipped in my left front pants pocket.

I have three leather Aker open top single magazine pouches with belt clips. I can add or subtract them as needed and can clip or remove them to and from other equipment when required.

I probably would too, except my job pretty much requires me to have a flashlight, so it's a dual purpose light.

I use Kirkpatrick Double mag pouches (http://www.kirkpatrickleather.com/product/h_72d.htm) but I put the belt loop on the outside so that the magazines hold closer to the body. They are still easily accessible, but stick closer to the body to aide in concealment.

I have these for my M&P and they are great. I just wish they made some for my P-01 :( I currently use the Comp-Tac carrier for my CZ mags and I prefer the CCC ones.

Todd, you should carry a P-01 so they will make some stuff for the P-01!

I have used the CompTac one (1.25" clip on, single mag) for years and have been very happy. I have the matching Surefire bezel-down carrier as well, rather than a combo pouch, so I can choose to carry only one of the two if circumstances warrant.

I have also used the Galco NSA horsehide IWB single mag carrier. It conceals better/prints less, being a IWB design, but isn't as easy to take off and put on.

I've been thinking about ordering one of those. How do they hold up to wear and tear? When you remove the mag do they collapse flat?

Any other reports?

vel525 you're not alone -- there's none for my P228, seems like a good price for a piece of kydex.

I'm real fond of the half-leather/half kydex concept of my MTAC, aside from the fact that the "retention" it had early on wore off and some kydex near the apex of the grip had to be cut away. Being tuckable is a bonus.

But is the C-tac carrier that good also?

Funny thing with IWB carrying. Everybody is different.

Just call CZ and get them to send me two pistols and 50,000 rounds of ammo. Rich will make holsters for it in no time after that, I promise.

Tusk-Mine (most of which are over 10 years old) have held up superbly. While one of them has some Velcro "fuzzing" it's of no operational consequence.

There is a polymer insert with most of mine, which develops a bit of a mold memory to the magazine emplaced in it; on magazine extraction, there's some partial flattening, but it remains open enough to facilitate easy re-insertion.

Wilderness will also custom-make pouches to your specifications, within reason, I suppose-they've done several for me over the years, such as a horizontal pouch with a Velcro flap (convenient for magazines with protrusive floorplate edges, like Hi-Power magazines, for example).

I love Ralston's mag pouches. His SMP is my favorite of his mag pouches.

The mag pouch from Alex Nossar designed to hold the 10 round 1911 mags, which is pictured below is very comfortable. I have been wearing it with an 8 round Cobra mag or an 8 round Wilson ETM. I really like how the mag sits lower in this mag pouch.

here is a pick with the same mag pouch and a Wilson 47d magazine.

Mitch Rosen SOS. Holds one mag and one light (SF 6Z). They are not vertical, but splayed a bit to aid in concealment. Been using that setup since 1996 or so - love it. Having the light has come in much more handy than anything else on my belt. I don't find it too large to conceal (it's smaller than most pistol mags). Even after switching to carrying an X300 on my duty weapon (I'm almost always in plain clothes), I still carry the SOS on my support side. Too many times when I need just a light and not a gun.

The best combo carrier I’ve used was designed and made by Lou Alessi and I presume is still made by Tom and Alex who are continuing on with the Alessi Holsters tradition.

http://www.louderthanwords.us/smallfoto/picts/ulfls/1605104/15570914095.jpg

If you want a combo carrier for a mag/6P or similar sized light there are none better.

Even still, for my uses I find myself just using two single mag carriers and sticking my Surefire Backup in my front pocket.

Yup, John’s stuff is excellent... over the last couple of years I’ve been really using a good amount of John’s gear and I can say for functional concealment gear it’s as good as anything else available and better than most.

RCS mag pouches all the way. I've tried a bunch of the ones that mount "square" on the belt and they keep digging into my side, and they stick out too far - but then again I have a 32 waist so YMMV.

I also carry a SF G2 bezel up behind the mag pouch, RCS will make one for you if you ask. I will caution that the last 2 light pouches I received from them were different, one had the grommet in the bottom, and one didn't.
