Sunday I took my godchildren and their mom to the range for some fun, dad had to work :(

Outside of popping a few .22LR out of their Ruger 10/22 at hunting land with their dad, they've never shot extensively at a formal range.

I used IDPA targets as backboards and stuck NRA bullseyes on them for aiming points.

Started them off with their girly 10/22 from make shift shooting bench. The regular bench was too high for them.

Then we're off to more exotic stuff. I installed the Ciener .22LR conversion kit in the LMT 10.5". It ran like a champ, I've never used it in this gun, only in the 16" rifle.

Everybody got a kick out of the black SBR and T-1, they've never seen anything like it. Mom and dad has a basic 16" Rock River Carbine that I helped them purchase from ADCO :).

The kids were supervised at all times, despite the pictures. I cropped the pictures, either myself or their mom was a foot or two behind them.

Mom enjoyed the AAC Pilot suppressed Ruger with the Tac Sol upper.

The 13 year old dry firing the Beretta Vertec G with TLR-1 light. She refused to live fire it.

One of my favorite things in the world is helping a child learn how to handle firearms in a responsible manner. We need to see more of these kinds of posts as it can on benefit all shooters.
Great post and keep up the good work.

Nice, looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Hopefully in a few years when my nieces and nephews get old enough I'll be able to do something similar

great job Sam, looks like you had lots of fun! If the kids keep with it, have them try for their Junior USA Shooting Team rifle patch (http://www.nssf.org/JRUSA/)

Thanks.

I started them out at 10 yards just to see where they were hitting with the Ruger 10/22. They all could shoot groups the size of a peanut butter jar lid :) or smaller.
We then moved to 15 then 18 yds. They 13 y.o. preferred shooting offhand standing while the 11 and 8 y.o. shot from the chair. They kept most of their shots within the 6" diameter bull. I made them take turns shooting 10 shots groups.

By the end of the day, we pulled the bullseyes off the IDPA targets revealing their results. 90% of their shots were within the -0 area.

They had a great time and that's what the afternoon was about.

The 8 y.o. asked, "is obama going to take out guns? i don't want him to take out guns!" That was precious.
