I have a small home, so room is at a premium. I used a 60.00 butchers block from craigstlist. I have two Dillon 550s, one for large primer work and one for small primer.

Looks great....that's a pretty efficient use of space. A lot of people seem to have dedicated loaders for each caliber, makes sense to have one for each primer size....

Keep em coming...

Holumber precut parts for the benches. The original Dillon mounts for their case feeders were much taller than the current ones. I had to cut a hole in the ceiling tile to be able to dump bins of cases into the case feeder.

New to reloading, just got my bench set up. Still waiting on some dies, and always waitin on powder and primers. Got enough components in stock to start when my dies show up. Mine has got a long way to go before I am done with it. My father in law is gonna help me put some shelves on it. My wife was accomodating to let me put it in the dining room. Her words were " Damn what any guests might think, at least it will save some money, and maybe you wont shoot as much if you have to reload it all by hand." Little does she know that I have already started a fund for a Dillon progressive press. :D

I made this reloading bench/cabinet 8 years ago. It rolls on 8" wheels. With the doors removed, it will fit sideways through a a standard 6"-8" x 3'-0" door. It is parked in my very crowded work shop which contains a lot of woodworking machinery, and so a lot of dust. With the doors closed, I can protect my reloading tools from dust, and I don't need to worry about things being left out if I get called away. Also, I can protect my reloading stuff from the prying eyes of neighbors and visitors.

I only have one press, a Dillon RL550B for .45 ACP and 9mm. However, the desk/bench I wanted to use for it was also coveted by my college sophomore son for his computers in his man-cave bedroom. So, thinking quickly, I said "fine" - and now I take up 1/3 of the space on that desk - and now he CAN'T WAIT to leave home and get back to his dorm in 3 more weeks. Very effective!

My table is a mess so no pics. I need to find some time to get everything set up right. All you guys have really nice looking tables...

On the "Glock bulge issue", are you having problems shooting through your own Glock or shooting other people's Glock brass in your non-Glock?

For the second issue, when I get new "unknown" brass I run it through a toolhead on the 650 with an old RCBS 9mm sizer die (with broken decapping stem) I use to use before I upgraded to Dillon dies. This is a non progressive sizer and sizes almost the complete case. Once I run a case through there, later resizings are not a problem since I know they were not shot in a Glock. A little extra overhead with new brass but you can basically go as fast as you can pull the handle since you have no primers to seat, powder to spill, bullets to place, etc. You can do a very large amount in a small amount of time and as long as you keep track of which brass is new and which you have used before it is a one time operation.

Both my Glock brass and other Glock brass.

Well that's what I ended up doing. I use a Dillon 9mm die at station 1 to get the size close and a EGW undersize die to finish the brass off. If I ran it through the EGW die off the bat, I was losing some cases to shaving because it was moving so much metal.

So now I run all the brass through my 'sizing' head, then polish it all, then load it with a head that has a powder drop, powdercheck, seat and taper crimp dies only, my headaches have greatly reduced

The rails are an aluminum extrusion product called "80-20" ( http://www.8020.net/ ). Comes in different dimensions and shapes. Mine was 1" high x 2" wide x 36" long. Used a router to cut a trough and recess it into the bench.

Gives the ability to add accessories swap out loaders very quickly without tying up the bench with a permanent mount.

In progress. Took over a 8x10 nook in the basement. $125 worth of Maple for the top.

Doesn't look like much, but it's a total 2x4 frame with a ledger into the studs, concrete anchors to the floor and the horizontal bits bracketed to the vertical legs. I had a light-duty metal desk that I used in the previous house and completely bent the top out of shape resizing 308. The presses are bolted with 6" 3/8 bolts through 1/4" steel plates on the bottom. Rock solid.

You have good eyes! They are Precision Bullets and I like them a lot. The gun stays cleaner as there is no lube or leading to contend with. I've tried the 230 gr RNFP, 200 gr RNFP, and 200 gr SWC. My favorite is the 200 gr RNFP. I shoot them out of a Wilson CQB and a Colt Commander. The two things I've noticed is that they like to be loaded short, 1.230", and they don't like the Lee factory crimp die (noted on the Precision Bullets website), as it crushes the portion of the bullet inside the case.

I'm running a few. I originally didn't see the warning against using Titegroup and had fouling problems (in a Glock). Now with Alliant Power Pistol and a different crimp, I seem to have sorted it out. Thanks for the insight.

No binding or canting, presses slide very well in the tracks......make sure the rails are exactly parallel to each other. Bolt holes in the plates are over sized 1/32" beyond the bolt diameter....you could go more if needed.

I am trying to figure out what size to make mine, was thinking about making it 2'x4'.

Volucris
02-08-10, 02:09
I think it's 72"x36". Make sure to really reinforce the top with cross beams and use at least a 3/4" thick top. I need to get some lead shot to weigh down the back two legs on mine because I'm getting some play when resizing cases because it's a top heavy bench. The NMRA plans offer a good start.

There's also a 6ft power strip on the back of mine behind the shelf (which i had as scrap so it doesn't fit the table).

Almost done with my reloading room. Just some finishing touches left like toe-kick and something on the floor. Might stain it or put tile down.

The 1050 on the left is set up with a PW drive motor and a KISS bullet feeder. Loading 9x19 or 40 at 1,300 rounds an hour without ever pulling a handle is soooooo nice.

The middle 1050 does 45 ACP and 45 Auto Rim. The 1050 on the right does 223 and 300 Whisper. Right now its set up to trim/form 223 into Whisper.

All the 1050s dump the spent primers through the bench top and into a can in the cabinet below.

All the 1050s casefeeders power cords run inside the square tube and into power outlets inside the cabinets so I dont have cords all over the top of the bench.

A Prometheus II is on the way and will be hooked up to one of the 550s.

The hydraulic pump for the Spolar shotshell reloader is under the bench. Loaded shells go down a chute and into a 20mm ammo can under the bench.

Every piece of pistol brass I load gets run through the case-pro roll sizer before I load it. A great investment.

Hozer - i hate and love you at the same time! Sincerely - AWESOME!!!!

I for varied reason am locked up in a small mancave my family lets me have and my bench works for me - I knock out buku rounds on my 1050 but have flanked it by older speciality benches. Keep the 1050 for 5.56 and 9mm - lets my Dillon auto primer filler stay at "small" primers. Set up for 9mm now but have the 5.56 tool head polucate in the rear if you can see it. .45 on the Lee 1000 to the left and .40 on the right. I have the 550 setup for decapping/sizing/trimming 5.56 now, but another toolhead for 7.62x51.

Water heater closet turned reloading closet when we installed a tankless system. Prometheus Gen 2 powder thrower, Forster Co-Ax press. It's perfect for economy of motion, and I can load ammo that is accurate to the kernel of powder in 8-10 seconds per charge. The garage and another closet house my powder, bullets, brass, and stainless tumbling set-up. Not pictured is my Giraud trimmer, which next to my Prometheus, is the greatest reloading invention ever made.

For volume loads on my AR, I run a redding BR3 and Tac Powder. Mostly I batch process everything, so I sold my dillon 550b.

My cramped but efficient reloading bench in the garage corner. I have plans and will be building a custom bench this summer.

I built my bench using plans from The Hammer Zone. http://www.hammerzone.com/arch...bench/below20xl.html (http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/workshop/bench/below20xl.html) I increased the size of lumber used (4x4 for legs and 2x6 for top edge). I've added to the basic bench over the years and am happy with the results.

If you look, I added two 2x4's running from front to back. My 550 bolts through these.

Current version. Added pegboard several years ago. Recently remodeled kitchen and had a couple of drawers left over and added them.

The single stage press, powder measure and trimmer all have nuts welded to the underside of the bench so they can be removed to keep them out of the way when I'm not reloading or don't need a them.

LOL - I hears ya. I am photographically challenged myself.

That is a nice bench, did you plan and build it yourself?

I really like that pegboard backer with the shelves on top. That's a great idea. I was going to just mount the pegboard on the wall, but I like your idea better. You can never have too much shelf space for brass and projectiles.

Yes, I designed/built myself over a weeks time. I spent $150 in materials, one whole day on construction and the rest applying stain and polyurethane. Six heavy coats of poly on the bench top, came out nice and smooth. Next up is wiring outlets on both sides of the bench and eliminating the extension cords.:)

Very sweet, that is a good return on the sweat equity.

I got a real good deal on something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Wide-Spaced-Cabinet-PS480806/dp/B00VESUP7U/ref=pd_sim_sbs_23_14?ie=UTF8&dpID=2179fNWQO0L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0MA466WDB60NNWD622PG

The one I got was 6 feet long, has 20 outlets with a 6 foot power cord, and was free.

I'm also thinking about LED under counter lights, like the kid you put in the kitchen. What are doing for lighting? I have overhead fluorescent now, but don't like the shadows they throw when I work.

Harbor Freight sells one like that... I have it along the front of my workbench, and it's super.

Thanks for the complement on the bench and yes sweat equity sums it up nicely. Thanks for the link I'll definitely go that route! For lighting I'm using a 4' fluorescent shop light directly over the bench top. I'm satisfied with it but am interested in the new LED technology. Keep us informed on the light setup you go with as I might follow your lead.:)

The LED strips are great. I reload with my dad on a 4'x12' maple top. It floats on cabinets and is anchored to the wall on one end. He's got the LED strip lighting all the way around the perimeter of the top. The light is great for seeing in the cabinets and finding anything dropped under the top.

The LED strips are great...

Do LEDs screw with electronic scales like fluorescent lights do?

I don't have an electronic scale, in part because my current reloading set-up is surrounded by fluorescent lights...

However, I'm adding on to the garage, and building a new reloading bench, and if LEDs would play nicely with an electronic scale, then I might go that route.

Gonna get a Gempro250 and was going to hang more fluorescent lights over the area... Can you buy a cheap battery backup system like APC and use that to isolate the scale???

I saw a deal on LED shop lights but passed. Let me know if you find any info.

Picture thread:
Built the bench on the right for the garage in the old house, had to move it to the basement at new place. Bought the bench on the left, 2'x8', for $75 locally, thought I got a great deal. Dude even topped it with an aluminum sheet. Gonna use it for my dedicated reloading bench.
