Years ago my biggest passion for Firearms led me into the world of Super Accurate Benchrest Rifles. And so I spent most of my internet time at Forums where like minded people dwell.

These guys have a huge dislike for internet nicknames and instead insist that members use some derivative of their real name when posting. I realize that with the many LEO and Military types who use this site that a certain level of anonymity is not only desired but downright necessary to some.

I got to looking at some of the nicknames on the M4Carbine site and I know that there has to be some good stories behind some of the monikers of its members.

While some are pretty easy to figure out...there are many that hold special meaning only to the member.

For example mine...(rat31465) As a child my favorite game to play was pirates. 314 is the mathematical designation for Pi. rat=self explanatory and the 65 was the year of my birth. When I created my yahoo account...I couldn't use numerical characters before alpha characters. So I ended up as rat Pi instead.

Anybody else care to share?

Character from Speed Racer.

I was almost "Ace Deucey".

mourneblade

Mine is from a series of Sci-fi/Fantasy books I read as a kid. I wanted a name that wasn't ever taken on most websites. It seems like almost all variants of my real name are taken, so "Mourneblade"...

Spade

Spade, When I was in like 8th grade I saw a picture of a plane with an Ace of Spades on it with the Grim Reaper. I later found out that the Ace of Spades was the Death Card. So in high school s&g I started carring one in my wallet. Word got around & some people thought it was kind of silly. a few years later when I got into gaming (Ghost Recon) a buddy suggested it as a gamer tag. It has since followed me around here & there.

I am a LEO that works the third watch by preference. I thought "Third Watch" was one of the greatest TV shows out there (and IMHO was retired way too soon).:)

murphy j
04-04-09, 21:40
The 'j' in mine is the first letter of my first name. The 'murphy' is a nickname some of the guys at work gave me. If there's a way to break something..........I can find it at the worst possible time:D. They're convinced I could break a bowling ball:D:D.

My favorite guns, are those that are made from Wood and Steel. I like the old K and N Frame S&W revolvers. Especially the Model 19 and 27. My favorite rifle in my safe, right now, is my M-1 Garand. I want to get a C&R so that I can start collecting many of the old rifles from WWI and WWII.

There is just something about Wood and Steel, that gives a gun it's soul.

Don't get me wrong. For a modern day weapon, the M4 is hard to beat. And my EDC is a Glock 23.

I love that show !!! It's still on A+E in the monings on my cable. Got my sandman name from 2 things. 1st was I spent so much time pushing the ground away at sand hill in basic, and the second way was by putting a couple of guys to sleep that were tag teaming my buddy in a club one night. Great friend but a bit mouthy when he drinks and I had to keep an eye on him in our younger years...lol Funny how getting married and having kids has a way of cutting down on the clubs and drinking huh ?

Odd story, kinda long.

I was in college...trying to register for one of those 'free' online email accounts (hotmail).

To register your email, you had to fill out numerous fields, name, address, desired username, items that interest you, etc.

I went on and on and on filling out this form and when I clicked submit, it said "that username is already taken, please try again". When I went back, all of the fields were blank again.

Filled it out again.....'username taken'.:mad:

After literally 5 tries and 15 minutes later, I was so mad I said "I have to come up with a username nobody has ever used!".

Just then as I'm thinking of a username, and woman came into class, took her JACKET off and pulled out a FRUIT roll up out of it.

FRUIT....JACKET. FRUITJACKET.

Works every single time I register at any forum. ;)

Bighead
04-05-09, 07:33
I've been harassed about having a big head since high school where they had a hard time fitting me for a football helmet. My brothers who played there after me used to be given my helmet initially for fitting...they were able to spin it freely around there head. This has gone on through my military career from supersized Gentex helemts to Protecs that looked like a skull cap to wearing the biggest MICH with the smallest pads they could find.

Variations on my nickname usually come from the movie So I Married an Axe Murderer. "It looks like an orange on a toothpick"...

Gutshot John
04-05-09, 07:36
When I first started taking formal pistol lessons, I would consistently have my group about 3 inches below the 8" circle center-mass from whacking the trigger...right in the gut.

My instructor jokingly started calling me "Gutshot".

The running joke became "Why do you call that guy 'Gutshot'? Did he shoot someone in the gut?"

My instructor's response..."No but he will." :o

I've gotten a bit better since. :D

Iraq Ninja
04-05-09, 08:40
When I started working in Iraq, I set up an online email account to keep in touch with the family. I wanted something simple that I would not forget, and something someone else could easily remember, unlike the typical "LeetWanker8657@Gmail.com".

I have spent a good portion of my life studying and training in classical Japanese warrior traditions. Thus, I somehow came up with the notion of a Ninja in Iraq. I then started to use it for the various forums I joined.

Well, I'm a guitar player that is known for my Custom Fender Telecaster that has some special mods. I find it easier to identify with the musical side of my personality rather than the military side. (it tends to offend less people and allows me to use the handle on many sites)

It's a bit of a PERSEC f' up I suppose, but it's been my vanity plate since I got my first vehicle. Started using it on the off-roading forums back then, and it's followed me since for consistency. I think it's pretty obviously "Lock and Load" in plate format, but I did have one teacher in HS that asked me if it stood for "Lookin' Loud"

Well, not being that sly, I was of course offended at the thought (who wants to look loud??) and explained the real meaning.

Since I had "Official Member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" shoe-polished onto my spare tire cover (this was shortly after Hillary's whining about that), it's not like I was flying under the radar anyway. Incidentally, the principal liked that one :D

neodecker
04-05-09, 11:27
I got NeoDecker from when I played the RPG Shadowrun back in 88. Neo = New I got it from the anime Akira (Neo-Tokyo), and Decker = is a type of hacker in Shadowrun, and since I was better with computers then the teachers everyone thought I was a hacker.
So NeoDecker = "New Hacker" and when I needed a name for my first AOL account that was the only thing that came to mind.

beaker1013
04-05-09, 12:13
I got my nickname in college on our fraternities bid day. We had to serve beer to all the actives when "Big John" walked in (6' 8" and about 260 lbs.). He walked over, picked me up by my head using one arm, and said," You know, you look like a Beaker" (from the Muppets). My eyes were buggin' out and all I could mutter was incoherent babble. The name stuck through the Marine Corps and to this day. The 1013 is my chapter activation number.

Give you two guesses. I really hope you don't need the second one.

There are at last count 40+ of folks with my name in Ohio, and I know one of them. Weird that.

My other forum handle is Lyrch as a buddy of mine's dad asked "Who's that Lyrch looking MFer?" That one has stuck for a loooong time.

Springfield Missouri is a town of a little over 150,000 people and there are two others with the same first and last name as mine. I actually was arrested once and sat in a county jail for 18 hours for a warrant on one of these guys. My DOB is 06/21/65...this clowns is 06/12/65. And according to the officer who finally got it straightened out. Our S.S.Numbers are only a few digits different. My I.D. is now flagged with the City, County and State Law Enforcement Agencies thanks to the officer.

BTW Guys...good post keep 'em coming.

I got into Cowboy Action shooting years ago and about the same time I bought a Dodge truck. So I figured on the name MarshallDodge. The extra L in Marshall came from the gal that signed me up at the first shoot and it stuck.

A short time after that I joined a forum and use it on most gun forums that I am on.
