How many of you have sold a gun and had seller's remorse?

I am trying to stick to one caliber, 9mm, and saw a Glock 17 in a local shop for $479. They also have Glock 19s for $529. I originally went into the store just to get a price for my used CPO 226 in 357 Sig when I came across the Glock.

I have only owned Sig pistols and have been curious about polymer guns. The gentleman behind the counter offered me $450 for it; fortunately, I only paid $500 for it 3 yrs ago. Would you ask to do an even trade for the Glock? My primary carry piece is a p228 which I love.

The 226 is also my first gun that I bought, but I just do not shoot it like I used to since 9mm ammo is so much cheaper. I would probably end up using the Glock for CCW and understand the 19 would be easier to conceal. I am just leaning towards the 17 if I do go through with the trade because it seems like a great deal. Any input would be appreciated.

I wouldn't trade it for the G17 since it's not what you really want. Pay the extra $50 and get the G19.

I'm no Sig expert but $450 for a P226 sounds a bit on the low side from what I've seen, even if .357sig isn't the most in demand caliber.

Here's another idea: if the P228 is what you really like have you considered looking to trade for either a P226 in 9mm or another P228 rather than something completely different?

Concur.

It's just not enough of a gap too justify a compromise, IMO. Get the G19. (assuming I am reading you correctly...)

I was looking around on gunbroker for either another 228 or 226 in 9mm, but they have been out of my price range. Buying the 19 makes a lot more sense for $50 more. Thanks for the suggestions.

I bought a SIG P228 in 9mm from Galyan's Sporting Good's when they were converting over to Dick's. Got it for $450. Sold it for $350 when I got into a financial pinch, or so I thought. I vowed never to make that mistake again!

i'm not completely up to speed on typical G19 pricing, but for a G17, at least, i would personally shop around and find a used one for $400 or less.

they aren't that hard to find (if you don't have to find it this very moment) for that price. police trade-ins are great for that.

ymmv, of course, but this has worked well for me on multiple occassions.

I hate it when this topic is brought up. It reminds me of a couple of handguns I wish I had not parted with. Keep it if you think you will miss it for any reason.

i've made the decision to never sell a gun from my collection unless the $$ is for another gun....

as for the topic i also read into your post that the 19 would suit you better, and i bet you can get more than he offered for yours on GB or even at a show perhaps...

Have you checked out the classifieds on Sigforum.com? You might post a WTT there for a 226 in 9mm. Personally, I'd love a 226 in .357 some day.

Since the 228 fits your hand and you're used to the controls, you might wish to stick with the brand. I love my 228s but nothing fits my hand like my 226s (both of my 226s are 9mm).

If you're serious about the Glock 19 (fine handgun by the way), you may wish to rent one and see how it handles and shoots for you. Glocks just don't fit my hand comfortably.

I wish I was old enough back then, would have bought at least 2 for that price.

Why not just get a 9mm conversion for the Sig????
I was considering a 9mm conversion Bar-Sto barrel, but want a 226 that was originally intended for 9mm so that it will not have a stainless steel slide.

I will definitely check that out. I rarely visit other forums since I found this one. You really do get EBR disease.

I will look over all my options and shoot the 19 when I get a chance. I do not want to regret anything. Thanks all!

I dunno. I've regretted LOTs of guns gone by. My first Colt .45, a Cmbt Cdr, a registered Smith n Wesson pre-model 27, a P7, a tack driving Smith 686, an OLD Marlin 336, a Glock 20, another Smith, a model 15 with DA like butter, a '95 Mauser in 7mm, another Marlin 1894, not one but TWO Smith & Wesson Model 58's. The humanity!
If I were already hooked on Sigs I might not. That said, I'm invested in Glock 9mm's with multiple 19's, 17's and a 17L and think very highly of the platform.
Tough call. IF you do, then like the other fellow said, get the one you really want (19) even if you're out some cash. That may lesson the sting.
I traded a pretty worn P220 last year and got $500 in trade. Now that was a tack driver too but I don't especially miss it.
