I was just wanting some input and opinions (positive and negative). I use a hogue AR15 pistol grip and I am satisfied. It's really comfortable and easy on the hand. Thanks...
I use the same as you. Me and my wife like the feel of it over the Toys-R-Us feel of the OEM plastic ones.
I know nothing, but I really REALLY like the MagPul MIAD, with the fattest insert.
I'm used to wooden stocks (M14, M1 Carbine) and high-capacity pistols, and I like a fatter grip. I like a grip fat enough that my fingers don't quite reach all the way around to meet the butt of my thumb.
Honestly, the smaller (USGI-sized) grips feel like they were designed for little kids or women.
I have small hands (I wear medium gloves), and the reach from the web of my thumb to the trigger was way too short with the A2 grip. The fat insert with the MIAD adds about a half-inch of "finger pull."
That's just my 2¢. I think everybody here will tell you that this is a subjective thing, much more a matter of personal preference than any objective "good, better, best" measurement.

Thanks. Each time I purchased an AR, the OEM was removed immediately and replaced with the Hogue. I've tried others, such as the Tangodown, and Ergo grip, and the new CAA with removeable backstraps, but I still prefer the Hogue.
I liked the Tango Down, but have come to like the Magpul MOE. My one beef is that I think it should come with an integral gapper. I don't like having to add the rubber one or spring for the ridiculously priced Magpul one that also has sharp edges.
FWIW, I can't stand the Hogue, or anything else with any kind of finger grooves, on any gun.

Yeh. This issue is very subjective. I can understand the finger groove preference thing, Rob. I guess that's why I also like the 3rd gen Glocks. Haven't tried the Miad yet, though. The CAA is somewhat of a knock-off. Thanks for the input. Does anyone have any failures to report, of any kind? Such as breakages, etc...?
TD and standard A2 for me
I like the MIAD and the old Lonestar Ordnance trapdoor grip.

i am also a big fan of the magpul MIAD. (i like it with the biggest backstrap insert and no fingergroove on the frontstrap. i generally like fat grips and dislike fingergrooves.)
the MIAD also seems to position my trigger finger well and facilitates a nice, smooth trigger press.
and you can store an extra set of batteries for your optic inside of it.
A2.
But I have one MIAD which I like.... there's just no need to change out my 4 other A2 grips.
I have the CAA G27 and love it. It is a very strong built piece and looks awsome too. I had the HOUGE but didnt like it.
ztf HITMAN
04-08-09, 14:20
Thanks. The CAA I handled felt pretty nice...It seems alot of you guys don't like finger grooves...By A2, are you guys referring to the OEM grip that comes with a typical AR?
Parabellum9x19mm
04-08-09, 14:23
yes A2 = current OEM, milspec
A1 = no finger bump, old milspec
btw i like Tango Down and MIAD in "small" config.....smallest backstrap, smooth forestrap.

My LMT lower came with a ergo grip so I saw no reason to replace it with a miad, but my other lower has a miad on it. I like both of them and had the lower not showed up with an ergo I would have bought another miad.

I have really come to like the Tango down grip. Very comfortable for my use. I haven't tried the MIAD yet but looks nice but it appears to be wide and slick.

TD, especially with gloves

04-08-09, 14:38
If you have larger hands like I do, You may want to try a MIAD with the "large" backstrap. Even the MOE grip feels fine to me. The A2, Tango Down, and the Ergo Grips just don't fill my hand enough to be comfortable. My $.02
The one that came on my LMT MRP CQB Piston...............Ergo!!!!
No reason to change as I really like it......that said, I haven't tried any other grips on ARs except my neighbors standard S&W M&P.
ztf HITMAN
04-08-09, 16:56
I have small/medium hands. I use the medium backstrap on my M&P 40. might give the MIAD a run. It's been a while since I tried the TD...Sizewise, how does it compare??

I use mostly Magpul MOE grips.
MOE grips all the way. It just makes sense.

I REALLY like the nice, somewhat spongy feel of Ergo grips. I have one on my POF, but my 'new' M&P15T came with the full, enhanced, Magpul Miad, which I find so far to be... underwhelming. :(
I'd heard a lot ABOUT them, but I'm not really impressed - they are pretty unyielding, and while they fit my hand (not too big), it's not a grip I can really embrace at this point. Good excuse for RANGE TIME, I think... ;)

I have tried to like the Tango Down grip, but keep going back to the MIAD. I have it setup exactly like a MOE, but RA didn't have black MOEs when I wanted one, so I got the MIAD instead.

Well, seeming as I bought a BG-16 from TangoDown off of their website on 12/22/2008 and was told three weeks ago that it was being shipped "next week", I'd almost say I'd trust those ****tards at CAA to complete my build. Looks like Magpul is getting the funds.
Oh well, it's a shame too, TD has the best ergos IMO.........Screw 'em.
PS - Yeah, yeah....I bought from their site and should have known that they're busy filling their vendors orders first. No excuse, their front desk maid shouldn't have lied to me.
MIAD and only MIAD for me and these big paws
TD, planning to through some grip tape on it as soon as I figure out where I put the grip tape.
ergo on my LMT. Ergo on the 6.8SBR build I'm working on. Ergo because they're ambi, and do exactly what I want it to.....feel comfortable, hold cr123s if necessary, and feel the same on each AR platform I build.

04-08-09, 22:40
Hmmm.....I see that Hogue has a 'storage kit'...(a plug for the bottom of the AR15 grip) Anyone have any experience with this?? The Miad seems to have alot of fans here...
used to love the hogue ambi, but now that i got my first magpul moe awhile back, i think they willl be the ones i stick with.

The standard one with about a 1/2 roll of athletic tape built up to create a palm swell. I use a gapper too only b/c I finally decided I was worth the $1.95 instead of a cut foam ear plug.
Yeah.... I know, I am white trash.

I switched out the Hogue which came on my first rifle for a TangoDown and never looked back. I recently picked up a MOE grip to try out and am just waiting to install it.
Miad with smallest backstrap and smooth front strap...and a Gapper.
MOE Grip for me. Love it. :)

MIAD's with the medium backstrap and a smooth front. For my SBR I want to try a MOE, but I need to find one in OD.
My first Colt I put the Hogue on it. It was the middle of the summer and mosquito season and I was called out for a barricaded subject. After showering in OFF my Hogue became very sticky. After the 8 hours standoff it was ruined.
Tango Down lets my hand ride too high on the rifle for my taste but I liked the feel.
I've currently got TD's, MOE's, and Ergo's. As I have small to medium paws I prefer the TD to all, like the Ergo, and can tolerate the MOE. Unfortunately for me my preference follows the pricing of these a well.
I agree about finger grooves. I personally use the MIAD with flat front and medium backstrap.
My LMT came with the Ergo, liked it so much I got one to replace the plastic A 2 style that came on my S&W.
I like the MOE the best. I would like the MIAD best, but for some bizarre reason, the MIAD part that comes with the enhanced trigger guard has the stupid ridge on the front...
I really like the Ergo Grip for the AR. Even considering shelling out for one in the AK platform.
HAMMERDROP
04-12-09, 18:12
Basically have tried them all but I prefer the tight installation of the TD similar to an OEM grip but with different grip angle and no finger groove. Traded my black TD, but got this in a trade and it has finally cured me of the BRD... just need more FDE !

A1 or MOE.
My work carbine has a TD grip as does one of my personal carbines. The other two carbines have a Command Arms G27 grip and one has a standard A2 grip.
MIAD with the plain front strap and the largest back strap.
RogerinTPA
04-12-09, 19:31
2 MIAD's, with smooth front strap, one MOE (I hate the finger grooves too). 1 stock Colt A2 grip on a new in box 6920, which I plan on keeping stock for investment purposes.
One Hogue and one TangoDown.
I use the standard A1 grip (no finger bump, no texturing like on the A2).
MOE or MOE-sized MIAD. Only have MIADs at the moment but that is only because of availability.
Have a:
Magpul MIAD -Good grip and best looking grip on an AR.
Euro grip -Also a good grip. Really like to soft rubbery feel not as aesthetically appealing on the AR as the MAID IMHO.
I like the MIAD and MOE along with the magpul triggerguard, turns the rifle into a cadillac.

I just installed my Magpul MOE and really like it. It didn't feel that great off the gun but once installed it feels great.
Does anybody know where I can get the 3 round core? I can't find that anywhere separately.

I had an Ergo on my LMT lower when I got it, and didnt like the finger groves. I bought a MIAD and installed it with the smooth front and medium backstrap. I like it, but I think I would rather have a TD.
i have tangos on my 3 fightin' guns and an ergo on my bench queen..
i was a big fan of ergos and used them for all, until i broke one in the middle of a drill. now i have phobias.
MIAD and only MIAD for me and these big paws
Same here. With my man hands, it's easier for me to get proper placement on the trigger with the MIAD.
Have a:
Magpul MIAD -Good grip and best looking grip on an AR.
Euro grip -Also a good grip. Really like to soft rubbery feel not as aesthetically appealing on the AR as the MAID IMHO.
I completely agree with the MIAD but not with the ergo :) you get the same subbery feel from Hoge and looks a lot better. The palm swell feels more ergonomic as well.
I still say the CAA G27 is the best looking and comfortable grip made. and built tough also.
I prefer the Hogue. I like it so much I modded a couple to go on some of my AK's too.
Hate the Ergo and anything else with such a high backstrap.
I like the Magpul MAID it feels good no slip has adjustability with the back straps.

ergo for me. but i havent tried the hogue yet.
MIADs on my Colts...#2 backstrap.
Ergo that came with my LMT.
Nothing really wrong with any of the A2s or even the A1 I had. I went to the MIAD out of curiosity....and once I did, those "stock" grips just felt too thin.
Huge fan of the "soft" Ergo grip. Have it on two of my rifles, and some of my co-workers put it on their after they tried mine out. I think it works best for those of us with small mitts.

I have 2 grips on the 5.56 I use the Erogrip with the light rubber coating and on my new 6.8 I use the magpul MOE
i usually see hogues accomponied by CAA/UTG/YHM... ruined for me.
The "Toys-R-Us" ones are just as deadly. K.I.S.S.
I use the new A2 model instead of the old A1 issue. That old A1, 'Nam era grip is SO yesterday!
I wear gloves and tend to prefer the Tango Down.

Not the most expensive in the world...ok, one of the cheapest -- UTG Ergo. I have them on three ARs and love them. :-)
I use a Hogue on my Remington 870 shotty and like it too.
I use a Magpul MIAD, large backstrap and integrated trigger guard frontstrap. This is a little odd to me because my hands would never be confused for being large (the small side of medium), but it fills the hand well and lets my finger rest correctly on the trigger without having to adjust my grip. Incredible improvement over the A2 grip.

I tried an ERGO years ago and really liked it....all my AR's have ERGO grips now.

Ergo and MIAD grips for me. Have yet to try a MOE or the BCM grip. I would give them an honest shot though.
MOE for me.
Started out with the A2, but the more I used the rifle, the more I hated it. Whoever here pointed out the fact that the noggin in the middle if the grip is annoying as hell was dead on. Plus for me, it also felt really to thin and I didn't like where it positioned my hand.
Never really interested in the MIAD- just seemed like to many moving parts.
The MOE fits me much better, although I do wish it was slightly thicker around the middle- may have to check out an MOE+; last I had one it seemed better.
moe +. it used to be the ergo but i didnt like how long it was (i understand it doesnt really matter) but thats how i feel
I use the new BCM gunfighter pistol grip. I like it much more then the tango down and ever the miad (which was my prior favorite). Its the best of both worlds. It has a great grip angle, great texture (similiar to miad), and has internal storage I will using theses from now on.
And they come in different configurations and of course colors. Check them out. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCMGUNFIGHTER-Pistol-Grips-s/160.htm
BCM GUNFIGHTER's Grip Mod 1
Just put a MOE+ on based on this thread. It's going on all my rifles for now on it's perfect IMO.
Just made the switch from the MOE to the BCM Gunfighter Mod 1. I'm very happy with the size, angle and texture of the Mod 1.

I use just a regular MOE grip, It's simple comfy, and has room to put a small bottle of CLP in it.
I definitely go against the grain. I use a Tapco SAW grip. I got it because it was the only PG big enough to hold a decent spare parts kit and a pair of AA batteries. After I got a stock that could hold some batteries I switched to an Ergo and ended up witching back to the SAW for the feel. I like the way the taper forces my hand upward and gives it the proper length to get my finger hooked.
MOE+ but I wish I could try a BCM.

Hand is used to the stock a2. I think it's very comfortable.
Tried TD battlegrip, but didn't take to it. Angle in relation to the buffer tube too acute; didn't feel natural.
Tried a Hogue and really like it. The finger grooves, palm swell, and overall ergonomics make it very comfortable. The rubber is a nice touch. Plus they're a lot cheaper than others. Got mine for under $20 new.

Had used the TD and MOE back and forth while hating the A2 and it's little nub for years (I have giant hands). Was given a BCM Mod 0 Gunfighter Grip by a buddy, and I don't think I'll be using anything else on carbines from now on.

I went from a Tangodown to a Magpul MIAD to a BCM MOD 1, which I'm just now realizing is a regression of grip angles. I couldn't be happier with the BCM. My experiences with it result in a noticeable decrease in wrist fatigue.
Daniel Defense A2 Pistol grip. Love it.
I also have a hogue and it is great as well.
I never really tried too many pistol grips, the ones that came on my DD's are all comfortable, easy to grip and light/strong.
the hogue came on a LE6920 I got ina trade; and it is GTG.
Is there really that big of a difference in pistol grips; I guess I've never really paid much attention to the various offerrings I've seen...
I have a MOE on my DD M4. I like it, but today I was in a local gun shop and he had a rifle with the MOE+ on it. I really liked it. I will be ordering one soon.

You should check out the BCM gunfighter before making your purchase. I also purchased the MOE grip after feeling it, then used the gunfighterwhich came on a lower and was upset I wasted the money. If your heart is set on a Maoae though I have a brand new regular MOE black that has not even been installed ever

I like the Magpul MIAD, or the MOE + (plus) which is pretty tacky. Really I like the MOE + better, few bucks cheaper & I couldn't really feel a difference in ergonomics. Plus I guess it depends on if you want that option on the interchangeable straps of the MIAD... My hands are a good size. I mean my fingers aren't terribly long or anything but the MOE + fits good. The newer BCM's are GTG also.

I run Tango Down BG-16s on most of mine but I have a Colt A2 grip that is actually real nice. More rubber than anything. If A2 grips came like this I would hardly buy a new handle.
Went from the MOE+ to a BCM Mod 1. Spent a little time with it today and I really like it so far, less wrist fatigue after a long range session.
Took a page out of BCmJUnKie's book and wrapped it up in hockey tape because I found it much less grippy than the MOE+...

Run with Hogue's
MIAD, but down the road I want to go to an MOE-K or the BCM grip.
My only hesitation is that I prefer a thick grip (biggest insert in my MIAD), the MOE-K and BCM look small comparatively.
My only hesitation is that I prefer a thick grip (biggest insert in my MIAD), the MOE-K and BCM look small comparatively.
This.
My guess is we'll see Magpul start to invest more in grip angles and run with it. Again, give me a fat-backstrapped, rubber overmolded, MOE K-angled MIAD+ that accepts std. MIAD/MOE grips cores and I'll buy 10 of 'em.
TD and standard A2 for me
I've tried the A2, TD battle grip, MOE, and the Ergo. The Ergo was comfortable but felt cheap, and the plug fell out everytime I shot the gun. I like both the TD and the MOE, I still have the MOE on one of my guns but I replaced the TD with a standard A2 when I installed a geissele SD-E trigger. For some reason the angle of the TD grip just didn't feel right with the flat trigger. It is perhaps the most solid feeling grip I've seen though.

Running the MIAD on two M4s. Keeping them moderately thin. Storage is nice and a plus.
So far I've tried the standard A2, Magpul MOE and MIAD, and the BCM Mod 1. Out of all of them, I prefer the more vertical grip angle of the BCM. I noticed less wrist fatigue after shooting for an extended period of time (say 3 or 4 hours), as compared to doing the same with the MIAD or MOE.
I have large hands and fingers BUT my fingers are short. The A2 was uncomfortable and the ERGO gave me to long of a distance from the back strap to the trigger. I picked up the BCM Gunfighter's Mod 0. It fits perfect and I found that I don't want to bring my hand around as I get tired.
I like the Ergo the best, but I also like the TD and the old A1 GI grip.
missionfirsttactical.com has some different styles of AR pistol grips that look kind of interesting. http://www.missionfirsttactical.com/Products/Pistol-Grips/ENGAGE-AR15-M16-Pistol-Grip-with-interchangeable-straps
The BCM Gunfighter Mod 1 is my new favorite. It is a nice solid grip with just the right thickness, a little bit of palm swell and a good feeling angle. The storage compartment seals up nice and tight too.
I prefer the Tango Down Battlegrip.
I have one on almost every AR I own.

So you found a grip you "really like so far" and it required an ugly wrap of grip tape to make it work because your grip wasn't grippy enough? Sounds to me that it isn't all that. No thanks. IMHO of course.
Not all that worried about looks, doubt anyone is going to pin a blue ribbon on rifle regardless. I'm more of a function over form fellow. The tape serves its purpose well and it's cheap. The biggest plus for the BCM grip was the angle. Only other options thus far were the Magpul K (way too small) and the HK (a little pricey).
YMMV!

I just put a BCM grip on my carbine. I handle an HK this past weekend and liked the grip angle. The BCM grip feels good so far. The grip texture feels similar to the MIAD that I had been using.
After doing a little dry fire I'm digging it. Feels more natural. I can't wait to try it a multigun match this weekend.
Went from Ergo grip to BCM grip. VERY happy. The grip angle is much better for my style of shooting.
Agreed...I went from a MOE to the BCM Mod 1 and have been more than happy with it. I think the texture is fine, but I guess I normally wear gloves when shooting.
Currently MOE, but after playing with a MOE+ and a BCM grip this weekend, I'm thinking about making a change soon enough.
