View Full Version : What is your AR used for?
Just curious what everybody uses there AR for, (hunting, home defense,............
The sole purpose for all of my firearms is SHTF/ home defense. Everything else is a bonus.
Right now it is home defense. In a little over a year, it will be my patrol rifle for law enforcement.

When mine's built it'll be for home defense... once I have a couple more they'll also be for home defense/SHTF... and when I have some more... well, you get the picture...
1) Training classes
2) Patrol rifle

Home defense and perimeter patrol duties. Oh, and for shooting all the time since I just really enjoy shooting.:)
For pissing off anti-gun liberals through superior firepower.
Just kidding. Mine is for a piece of mind.
LMT is patrol rifle, others are because I can.
Artwork.
;)
+1
Mainly SHTT, hunting and plinking. Don't have to worry about home defence because I'm only 16 and live with parents where all guns except dads Xd are kept locked in safe which I don't know combination to
Edit: Stick's "Artwork" should be in a museum
It is currently sitting in pieces in various packages across the country, waiting to make it to my mailbox. Before that, my last rifle was an M16A4 and it's sole purpose was to guarantee my family I came back home alive.

Hunting pure and simple. Of course I have become familiar enough with them to do whatever I need to do with em. I can't help it if a fighting carbine platform happens to make a killer coyote gun...

My dad has an airsoft Sig 552 that fires around 800 rounds a Minute with about the same FPS. It empties the mag in about 1.5 seconds. When you take the orange tip off you can't tell it from the real thing. It's cheap to shoot and almost as fun

Patient: tex45acp 11/08/08
Address: The Great State of Texas Dr: U. Will Feelbetter, MD
RX: M4A1 Bushmaster Carbine
Insert magazine, Pull charging handle to rear & release, place buttstock against shoulder, sqeeze trigger multiple times until magazine is empty & target is perforated adequately.....repeat as necessary to eliminate stress. For generic replacement install dedicated .22 rimfire upper and repeat as necessary.

1) Protecting myself and my family, be it from a single burglar, issues that may arise during civil unrest, or zombies.
2) Training on my own time. (Have to use the Departments guns while on duty)
3) Because I like to shoot them.
4) Because my 11 yr old son likes to shoot them also.
5) To teach my son and daughter how to use the AR's (Colt 6920's) that are stashed in the back of the safe for them, in case they are unavailable to purchase when my kids turn 21. (Their guns are next to a pair of Glock 19's and M&P9mm's that also happen to have their names on the boxes)

I shoot Tactical 3 gun, plinking, and I take carbine classes to hone skills, mostly just cause I like the physcial abuse traing puts on my body. Plus, what good is owning something if your not fluent with it's usage. Someday my kids and nephew will have the pleasure of competing with me.

I don't have any serious purpose behind owning my AR (so far just a .22lr one, a 5.56 one is on it's way as we speak). It's for fun and recreation.
But I'd say shooting is a pretty important part of my life now even though it's not used for life & death purposes. Without it, well my life would be so much more boring, it's become a defining part of me now.

I couldn't agree more or have said it better. I've met so many decent down to earth good people through my range and classes I've taken. Ignorant people just link guns to violence, and don't bother to see the benefits. Like competitions, or social circles, how about scholarships awarded to youths for shooting? I think my life would be plain jane if I could't shoot tac 3 gun anymore :(

What is your AR used for?
killing air molecules and 8 1/2" X 11" sheets of paper and some rocks and dirt at the range.., and when i am out "free style" shooting i have killed some refrigerators, ice boxes, cans, hub caps, bottles plastic jugs filled with water, those things really explode, besides, none of the afore mentioned items are easy to skin and cook so i just discard them in the nearest dumpster. :D :D

I got my first AR at 16, a pretty little SP1 Carbine bought with $328.00 dollars of hard earned hay bucking money, it took a few more weeks to get the Colt carry handle scope for it. My dad, uncles and grandpa were all USMC vets from various wars and had a keen appreciation for carbine utility. Everything that needed shooting got shot with those carbines. Lot's of M1 Carbines floated around our household and then my uncle came back from Vietnam with a brand new plan.
Have never been without a couple since :D
Even my Fed job provided me with a rather beat up M16A1 and then later a shiny new out of the foil M16A2 :D
I cruised though the 1980's gun culture era wondering why gun magazine commando's dogged the AR so bad and flirted with HK's, FAL's, Galil's, Augs and shot USMC M14's on the Reg rifle team. I was the barracks briefcase FFL gun pimp, you name it, it went though my hands and lots of time came back :D
As far as what my AR's are for, there's a 6920 out in my truck right now that's going turkey hunting Sat, a Bushy flat top with Leupold target scope that's killed hundreds of prairie dogs and coyotes.
Lot's of utility in an AR carbine, the 5.56 is about the ideal subsistence cartridge for day to day western "survival" for the same reason the M94 .30-.30 was so popular.
Better question is what isn't an AR good for!
Take Care,
