View Full Version : New Carbine. What to do?
So today I picked up a NIB Rock River 9mm Carbine. I would prefer a colt just like everyone else here but right now I am in the "get what you can" mindset.
It is stock except they swapped out the hand guards for M4 double heat shielded hand guards for free. I am trying to decide what if anything I should do with it after I test it out with a few hundred rounds downrange.
Give me some advice here. Quadrail? Optics? Help a guy out here. For some reason I am at a loss right now as to what to do to this one. A part of me wants to keep it as is and a part of me wants to go all out with it.
One nice thing as you can see from the pics is that this is the new Lower that is milled for Uzi mags. No more block pinned or wedged into the mag well.

I'd personally get railed forearms, new flash hider, new pistol grip, new stock, and get a suppressor for it.
I thought about it. But it is staying a carbine for now. I don't want to mess with the paperwork. I had a pistol I almost SBRed but just said screw it in the end LOL.
All manner of modifications can be made to the 9mm carbines. It's really just a matter of what your intended use is for it.

The pistol caliber beans are ideal for SBRing. You don't get the velocity loss that you do with a rifle cartridge.
I would buy a few cases of ammo and shoot the piss out of it. I wouldn't spend a dime on optics until I knew the weapon was reliable.

9mm ammo can't be found. Thus, reliability is a non issue. :p
Please not that I said I intend to do that first. Just trying to be proactive :)
Ok Here we go. I had some parts around the house. I threw an Ergo Grip on it and a Magpul Enhanced Trigger guard. Thought I had another Miad Around here but I am not sure what I did with it. Oh well. I also swapped out the stock for a CAA I had laying around. Not great but I hate the standard M4 stocks. I think one of my Local shops has some Troy Quadrails in stock and they have had a few Magpul stocks. I will have to go check it out after the tornado warning has passed.
Also I had a FH I was going to put on the rifle however it would not fit. The threads seem to be slighly different. Do 9MM come with different threading to avoid any issues with standard Flash Hiders?

Good thing I have about 7K rounds on hand then isn't it :) And I can get Ammo, it is just expensive.

You're sitting pretty.

Oh, so you are the A-hole ;):D
I knew that I should have bought more of that Federal 9mm for 199.00 a case at Natchez back in January. Now it's like looking for Willie Wonka's golden ticket.
You think 9mm is bad, they had some 380 ball at $50 per box. Yes that is Ball ammo for $1/round.

The Colt 9mm barrels are ½” x 36 tpi.
I managed to track down a black Commercial MOE stock and ordered it in place of the crap CAA I had laying around. Does anyone know where I can get a MOE Hand guard? I figured this would be a good one to try it on. If not then I am going to pick up a Troy Quadrail.
