I can get a fair amount of 4064 powder. I have never used it. Is it a good .223 and .308 powder?
Thanks guys.

IMR4064 is my favorite powder for my 30'06.

My manuals also show it for 223 and 308.

I've not used it for 223 as all of my 223 reloads are done on a progressive and I've had issues with stick powders like 4064 not metering very consistently.

To be fair though, I've not even tried it in my Dillon though.

If you were charging each case by hand, (individually weighed powder charges funneled into each case, one at a time) 4064 would probably be fine.

Thanks Dave I am concerned with it being Stick powder as well. I use a Dillon and do not charge each by hand.

4064 kernels are like rat turds, or some of the lesser hamster turds.

Try something more along the lines of mini mouse turds, like Varget or RL-15.

Or just use ball powder.

Peace in powder charging.....

I've just played with it on the heavies in 223, (75, 77 and 80's) years ago for a 600m load. Ended up using varget, RL15 and Vit something or other. For the Dillon, I'd stick with a ball powder or don't be to critical on your load weights, they fluctuate (sp) quite a bit. I think I was getting a 1.5 grain variance so I went to throwing charges. It aint all that bad for 600m load but for banging ammo, go ball.

I loaded 500 rounds last night with it. It went slower but ok. I had to watch the powder level in the case. I shot it today and it worked fine for plinking ammo.
