I have a Colt preban small hole lower that came with a screw instead of the captive pivot pin. I am thinking of trying the following. Has anybody had any experience with them? Is it worth replacing the screw in pin with them?

KNS pivot pin (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=17158&title=AR-15/M16%20PUSH-BUTTON%20RECEIVER%20PINS)

DPMS Colt push pin (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=24947&title=AR-15/M16%20COLT%20PUSH%20PIN)

Thanks in advance.

Don't put KNS in a Colt.

That's like installing plastic spinning hub caps with fake chrome on Mercedes.

Is there a hold for a standard detent in the lower? Mine did not have this and I had to have S.A.W. convert it.

markm,
Any reason for not using KNS - you analogy is a little lost on me ;) ? Mine is not drilled for detent either. I do not want to send it out at this point.

Hmmm... your gun must be a 1996ish production. That's what year mine was at least. Colt started drilling the holes later.. even though they still came with that goofy screw set up.

I find KNS's product line to be repulsive. It's like using tinfoil to fashion a chrome pipe on a Harley. How does that analogy work?

There's bound to be someone in your area who is qualified to do this modification.

Interesting. Both of my lowers are pre-ban as verified by Colt. A friend of mine managed to find a verified pre-ban that has the standard captive pivot pin.

Yeah. Colt was all over the place for a few years there. They've always produced good guns, but in the 90s the commercial guns seem to come with all kinds of different parts at different times.
