I just need a reality check of reasonable rifle prices post Obama. Here in Anchorage, plain Jane, no frills DPMS, Bushmasters, etc are going for more than $1,600. Is this the case elsewhere? Seems like last year I could find an LMT or Colt for less than that.

Prices are way too high for those types of rifles.

I would look sites people mention here all the time and buy the rifle in pieces.

This is what I have done on my first build/mutt gun. I got the upper (BCM) from Bravo Co, Rail (DD Omega) from Rainier, CH, BCG from Grant and he is working on the lower for me so when I get that all I have to do is snap it together.

I will then have a great rifle for for hundreds under your listed price.

Where the hell are you shopping, I work at one of the shops in Anchorage and its not that bad. A little more than state side. But $1600 for a flat top DPMS or Bushmaster... WOW.

You can buy a Daniel Defense carbine for around 1500-1549.00 right now. I would carry a machete before I would buy a DPMS or Bushy for 1600+ dollars.

In my Area LMTs are in the 1400 range, Colts a bit higher and the rest somewhere under that.

This week on gun store racks here in Alabama I saw a Colt 6920 for $1850, a S&W M&P15A for $1300, and low end Oly/DPMS guns starting around $900.

I keep hearing about people paying $2k for a basic rifle, and I just don't get it.

I can understand if the price tag says $1,600, but is anyone actually paying that much and buying them? Sometimes a shop may just have one of an item and put a high price on it caus they only have one and don't know when they will get more. I would be surprised if they were moving volume at that price point. Even the sales tax on a price that high would be a lot of money.

Anchorage and Fairbanks have no sales tax and Alaska has no state sales or income tax.

I wish that concept would catch on nationwide.

But, it sounds like the regular prices are substanially higher than most places. I have noticed that things like Milk and gasoline in Anchorage always seemed high to me.

Price tags around here from one shop is $1100 for a basic Olympic M4. I remember them selling the same model for $700 four months ago. When I saw the tag the salesman asked what's wrong? I said this is kinda high so he just shrugged.

That was 3 weeks ago and they still havent sold one yet. I guess the local market could be slowing down now or the consumers are getting smarter

Go to New Hampshire. No sales tax and no personal income tax.

Several other states only have one of the two -- some have no sales tax, some have no income tax
