Frangible as in DRT? Cause that schat is expensive, mostly just a P.D round. ( personel defense )

I picked up a case of 9mm frangible last year for $120 at a gun show. Stuff is great too.

I would have to say "no thanks" to that invite. That ammo is way too expensive.

Reason they require frangible is: indoor ranges with backstops designated "pistol ammo only" can withstand frangible 5.56.

Most factory frangible is designed as LEO training ammo because it usually has a "non-toxic" or "lead-free" primer and the absence of lead meets the requirements that many agencies now have for TRAINING ammo (though NOT issue ammo). Non toxic primers have a shelf-life, BTW.

Frangible retails for MORE than traditional lead ammo. Often the cost in 2 to 3X as much.

Departments do not care about this cost (its just you tax dollars so burn it up).

Departments do not care about this cost

Oh yes they do, and they are keenly aware of the costs.

They might be tax dollars, but there's a finite supply of them.

Good procurement officers will also be keenly aware of how the cost of the plays in to total operational costs of the range facility...and cleanup...over its lifetime. That makes them feel quite a bit better about the ammo unit cost.
