Well, since people have been asking, I got the answer.

Just got off the phone with Jay over at DD, and the Lite Rail will be pretty close to the weight of the old M4 rails. Price will be about $50 more than the equivalent model of the old style. Yes, they're still going to make the standard M4 rail.

I'll be ordering one of the 9.0 (or maybe 9.5 FSP) variety as soon as they become available, and will post a plethora of pics for the world to see. I might even throw in an in depth evaluation...

Carry on.

I believe we are looking at the new rails being within 1/2 ounce of the old rails, and that will include a steel barrel nut.

They will also be released in the same configurations as the current rails, which means I'll be doing some updating in the next month. That DD 9.5 LITE has my name all over it....... :)

I'll also add that the new mounting system is the easiest, most fool proof way to align a rail that I've seen. DD has made perfect alignment of the upper receiver - rail fit. They have also done away with playing games with the gas tube alignment.

Its like its heaven sent.

That's sure pretty... Is it a 12.0?

I like the fact that the DD will allow me to run LaRue rings with my Short Dot, which will save a good 6 oz over my current setup... Add onto that the fact that I'll be saving a good 3 oz on the rail system, and you've got a noticable difference.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one (9.5 FSP looks like it might be the ticket), to say the least!

I saw this picture without seeing the watermark and said to myself "Stickman."

You need to hold a photo workshop. I'd pay to go.

I'm looking forward to the lite rail too. I hope they show up about the same time as the Vltor VIS:D

I'm building an upper very similar for a friend when he gets the cash... Except, it'll be with a KAC flip front, BCM 14.5", and a TA31DOC. I've got the optic and front sight on hand, and I'll start rounding the other stuff up in a few weeks. He'll be utilizing the "special" feature of the RISII, and sighting in the Docter for that specific device.

That looks damn good, by the way.

Will the Lite rail work with the POF piston system?

Thanks,

Mike

I wish it were that easy brother. No the AR15 Lite Rail will not work on POF piston uppers.

We have partnered up with Daniel Defense to offer a exclusive on a NEW** 10" rail in both the original configuration and the new LITE configuration.

I think this configuration would be a sweet set up on a shorty upper.

My next build will look like the SBR pictured below, but with the new Daniel Defense 10" rail.

Oh, so neither you nor Jay thought it was important enough to mention this to me?

I see how it's gonna be ;)

Just for that, I'm waiting for the 10" Lite for my build. Ya booger...

Impressive. It looks like DD is as close to getting a monolithic rail, without being a mono-rail, as is possible. ;)

I just took a few more pictures to show the mounting area of the DD RIS II. While the rail obviously isn't the same, the mouting system and overall design should look pretty similar. If not, Jay can dispell any rumors before they get started.

Other than the obvious mounting system differences, are there any other differences between the Lite rails and DD's regular rails?

Steel barrel nut on the upcoming LITE rails.

I thought it may have been part of the RIS II requirements, but I may be wrong. I have no idea where I came up with that answer, so take it with a grain of salt.

I do have to admit that being able to keep the weight this low, plus have a steel barrel nut is pretty cool. I confess to having tweaked one of my aluminum barrel nuts a tad, but it was minor enough that I was able to fix it.

Another picture just for us visual people.....

I think the DD 12.0 FSP is my second favorite rail, with the first being the DD 9.5.

A quick pic, just for those people who are visual and need a quick jolt of DD 12.0 FSP goodness.....

I can't wait until the version to fit the POF is out. I have the older DD 7.0 on my M4 and love it.

Not sure if the rail we are buliding for the POF piston upper will work with the LW or not.

I will look into it.

I would expect that they would have them available. I know people have had DD make up uppers in the past that weren't specificly shown on their website.

There may be a question of it taking a little longer if its not on the shelf, but they have been very accommodating when I have needed things, and when I've recommended people to deal with DD, they have always ended up happy.

Seth, not to speak for Jay, but I'm pretty sure that it will work with the POF, it will work with the L-W.

Jay, think you might possibly get a pair of calipers near one of these? I'm just wondering if it'll have the same inside diameter as the old models. I've got a can being built that's going to telescope rearward over the barrel and under the HG's, and I'm curious as to whether or not it'll work with the Lite Rails or not as well.

I'm obviously not Jay, nor am I the all knowing Rail King, but I would say it is a hair narrower than the current DD rail. I know that doesn't help you much, but I don't have calipers that I can find right now.

I will put some cailpers on them Monday morning for you.

I can't remember off the top of my head the inside diameter.

Will these slide over a LaRue gas block? I really like the one continues rail because my scope ring hits where the ring is. Also how far away are the 9.0's?
