There is a difference between M-16 Bolt Carriers and AR-15 Bolt Carriers. If the ATF says that M-16 Bolt Carriers can be used in AR-15's then what is the advantage of the AR-15 Bolt Carrier?

Easier to find and a little less expensive.

If a heavier carrier is what you want, a Carrier Weight System from David Tubb lets you tailor the amount of weight added to your Ar15 carrier for optimum function. But it is not as tacticool as saying you have an M16 carrier.

It is actually cheaper to make a M16 carrier than an AR15 carrier (less mill time).

There is ZERO advantage to using an AR15 Carrier. Remember, the M16 was designed to use a M16 carrier. Stick with the Orig. design IMHO.

Is this true? because I would much rather have a heavier carrier. I thought that ANY m16 part on an AR is verboten.

Yes it is true and has ALWAYS been true. Not all M16 parts are allowed in an AR15, but the bolt carriers are.

A lot of manufacturers ONLY send their AR15's with M16 bolt carriers (like Colt).

They only started doing this recently, Colt for a long time sent all their AR's out with the half carrier. Which IMHO was as big of a mistake as them changing to the PC blocked lower and over sized fire control pins.

Don't forget the big pivot pin/screw. Those PC changes are as stupid and laughable as a bayonet lug, pistol grip or a flash suppressor making a gun more of a threat to society. Not to get off topic, the worst choice are the carriers with unprotected firing pins. When ATF first came out with the list of no-no parts the FA bolt carrier was listed along with the fire control parts. Glad they changed their mind about the carrier.
