Now that i have the Seekins Precision rings and base, i'm curious about ring placement/position. For whatever reason, i typically need scopes to be very far forward. So when the scope is properly placed for eye relief at both the high and low end of magnification, i try to put the rings approximately mid way along the tube between the objective bell and the turrets, and again mid way on the other side.

Doing this placed the rear ring over the ejection area on my Remington 700. Thinking i wanted to keep this area as clear as possible (for both loading and ejection/unloading), i moved the ring further back, which puts it pretty close to the magnification adjustment ring. It's not so close that it interferes with the manipulation of the ring, so everything seems fine.

Is this acceptable or am i compromising the integrity of the system in some way?

Thanks.

You are overthinking this. If you have a quality scope, where you place the rings along the tube does not matter.

I wouldn't sweat it too much if your rings are a bit further apart than usual. The biggest thing to worry about is making sure that yor scope functions as needed. Check to make sure your ring is still on the flat tube and doesn't get on to the flare and you should be good to go. If you're still worried about how far forward your scope has to sit you may want to see if the LOP of the rifle is too short.

Thanks for the replies.

My concern was not about the optical performance of the scope being affected but more about the ability to handle recoil and being knocked around (unintentionally).

After looking at many images of similar set-ups i see this position is not as uncommon as i had originally thought.
