Local WallyWorld has Remington UMC .223 55GR. for $9.97/box. White background on box with Remington written in green. Wholesale place in town has Winchester 55GR. 5.56 white box, Winchester written in red for $10.99/box. Rounds are for punching paper at local range and possibly saving for carbine class.

Being a FNG, I don't know if the price diff. b/w the two is acceptable; better quality? Will be shot in a Colt 6933 and 6920.

Should I hustle out to buy more of either/both(if good deal)? I don't have a money tree but I'll suck up the diff. if worth it. I should be able to get more of both throughout tomorrow.

Thanks for the help.:p

The Win is likely Q3131A1 and worth the extra price. Avoid the Remmington stuff, the QC has gone to hell lately.

I can tell you that people were here a few months ago complaining about bullet set-back in 5.56 and it was either here or TOS somebody had amn AR ka-boom with Remmington ammo story.

I saw with my own eyes this past Feb in Dave Pennington's class, a squib Remmington .40 round almost blow up Flyfisher's M&P.

Last year I had 4 rounds out of a 200rd case of 55gr UMC with no primer flash holes. Primer ejected out and round stayed in the chamber. I guess that's why they call it training ammo...

55˘/round seems awfully expensive for M193...

Maybe this is the new reality, or maybe you really need the ammo so it's worth it to you, but I think I've recently seen 5.56 for under 50˘/round.

That's normal for retail sales. If he has time to search the internuts, he can do at least a buck per box better.

I would go with the Winchester, over the Remington any day of the week and Federal XM193/M193, over either of the other two. MHO.

Local WallyWorld has Remington UMC .223 55GR. for $9.97/box. White background on box with Remington written in green.

I just sent 60 rounds of that through the barrel last Saturday. No problems were encountered with the cycle of the weapon or the ammo. It did build up carbon on the bolt quicker than the PMC rounds. The rounds were made in April 2008.

My daughter ran 60 rounds of Rem Accutip-V through it. Her groups were tighter with this ammo but it is expensive...could be cheaper to send her to the mall with the credit card:D

The remaining 300 rounds were PMC.

The rifle has had a total of 1100 rounds run through it

I shot 100 rounds of Rem UMC through my 416 last weekend. Ran fine. I also blasted another 150 or so rounds of PMC. Also ran fine.

I picked up a 100 round value pack of federal .223 at the local wally world last Sunday for $39, I didn't have a single issue in LMT with m16 carrier and H buffer, so I went and picked up 4 more boxes yesterday:D 500 rounds for $200 ain't bad for this day and age.

Have fired 2-3k through the 6920 in the last year - with a good chunk of it done over a 3 day period (Gunsite 123 class). Although it "feels" a bit light, I have had zero problems. Each round had all four required components, went bang when I pulled the trigger, ejected as it should, etc. Accuracy was as good as these old eyes can ask for.

Picked up 4 boxes of that stuff the other day as well, havent shot it yet. I also picked up a 600 round bulk pack of PMC Bronze at Cabellas for $265, not great, but they had it and it was in a decent ammo box that was selling for 15 by itself. Then the next day the case of XM193 I had been waiting on came in and I was kind of kicking myself for buying so much the day before, but oh well. Now I have 2000 rounds of mixed .223 and 5.56. I just need to pickup some type of hollow point for HD, I run gold dots in the pistol, how is their rifle ammo?

Q3131A1 is true 5.56 ammo.

Not quite, but it’s real close. The velocity specification for M193 laid out in MIL-C-9963D calls for an instrumental velocity of 3250 fps, plus or minus 40 fps, at 15 feet from the muzzle, with one standard deviation not to exceed 40 fps. This is from a 20” test barrel that does not have a gas system. The M16/AR-15 loses approximately 20 fps due to its direct impingement gas operating system, which gives you a velocity range of approximately 3190 fps to 3270 fps at a distance of 15 feet when fired from a 20” barreled M16/AR-15 or a muzzle velocity of approximately 3210 fps to 3290 fps depending upon the exact B.C.

Winchester’s Q3131A1 fired from a 20” Colt barrel with a NATO chamber, chrome lining and a 1:7” twist had a muzzle velocity of 3180 fps with a standard deviation of 24 fps.

Temperature: 78 degrees F
Humidity: 31%
Barometric pressure: 30.08 inHg
Elevation: 950 feet above sea level

All of the true 5.56 I have seen has had annealed cases and so far none of the .223 I have seen has been annealed. Is this something that is a spec of 5.56 or simply the XM193 I have been buying? It looks like the winchester pictured above is annealed.

Most any quality 223 Remington cases have been annealed. The 5.56mm cases just aren't polished to remove the annealing discoloration.

Maybe thats the case. I have a bunch of federal bulk pack from walmart and a bunch of PMC Bronze and neither look like they have been annealed compared to the case of XM193 I have.

I was in the Bass Pro Store yesterday. They had the Remmington 55gr for 9.99 a box. Had quite a bit of it. I too was wondering how good it was.

I saw UMC in walmart on Friday for $9.97 per 20. Everything else was wiped out.

Not sure if people don't want to pay that price for UMC or if they happened to restock the stuff before I got there.

the dicks out here has q3131 for 12.99 a box, xm193 tactical for 120.00/200 and remington UMC for 11.99 a box or 120.00/200

needless to say, i didnt buy any, they had a ton of it too so i recon i wasnt the only one who thought that was a little steep. back in november i got a good deal on some hornady 77gr 5.56 TAP, i only payed 12.47 a box for that! and dicks is selling m193 for 12.00 a box? thats a little ridiculous. i wish i could get M193 for 8 bucks a box again, or better yet, the 3 or 4 bucks a box that it once was.
