Getting ready to go to Pat Goodale's tactical carbine class, and looking to get appropriate equipment for the class. I see a lot of people using chest rigs for class but I'm not feeling it. I think they probably work great for class, but I don't think I'd ever use it outside of class.

Been thinking of getting two kydex mag holders to put on my patrol belt and running the class that way. Decent idea?

If any of you have done that before can you post a couple pics, and tell me what brand you got?

Specific to your question, I use the Ready Tactical (http://www.skdtac.com/Ready_Tactical_AR15_Mag_Pouch_p/rdt.110.htm). Make sure you order the right width loop for your belt.

As to the chest rigs, most of us that use them in classes and the like are using them to feed the belt pouch. My emergency reload is from the belt, my admin load is from the chest. I back-feed the belt pouch from the chest, and from the furthest right on the chest) when I can. The chest rig becomes, effectively, just a comfortable and compact way for me to carry extra ammo/gear to the line. I use it for the same thing at matches where I can load up for all the stages and have the right mags/loading on me rather than have to keep running back to the car/range bag to top up.

Resist the urge to load up the chest rig with all manner of non-essential gear and you're good to go. Mine holds three AR mags in fixed pouches, and a pistol mag and Leatherman tool in MOLLE pouches.

Since you're going to run your duty gear (good on you, train as you fight, etc etc), then there's a really good option for you. Heather's been playing with a CenterMassInc duty belt intergrated pouch and has liked it so far.

We're on the road, so I don't have any pics handy on this laptop, but basically, its a AR mag pouch that allows you to attach your pistol mag pouches to it as well.

I have used and I really like Blade Tech's Kydex mag pouches (http://www.blade-tech.com/Magazine-Pouch-AR-15-with-Tek-Lok-pr-868.html). I took a course using only two of these and it went well.

I ordered mine with tek-lock fasteners, for a right handed shooters, bullets forward, and for 30 round pmags.

They are a little pricey but I purchased mine while they were running a 25% off sale, IIRC. You might be able to catch a sale too.

Ended up getting two Bladetech kydex holders with stingray attachments. They worked great for class! I attached them to my patrol belt (removed a couple items not need for class), and had no problems!

Great fit and form, I ordered them for PMAGS but the USGI mags fit well too. Highly recommended!
