Just wondering what you guys think? I have more than 1, AR15 and was wondering how many mags should go with each weapon. I carry 4, 30 rounders on duty with my duty AR15. I usually like to keep 4 to 5 hicap Glock mags with each pistol, plus a 33 rounder (9mm of course) in the car. What do you guys think?

I'd say u were about right on AR mags. I have 3 mags for my AR, and 3 hi caps for my pistols. Then again I'm a civilian.

My thoughts are to have the number for the role. Test those to insure function, recheck. Have separate training mags. Then have enough to replace those two sets(duty/trng.) for the rest of your life. And you can never have to many.

To keep loaded with the weapon as "load out", or a total number to own per weapon?

As a loadout, I'm not qualified to make any recommendations on that. I plan to have 3+1 in the rig I'm assembling (a stand-alone first line belt setup for non-Mil, non-LE, ordinary citizen use, as a point of reference).

To own, how many can you afford? Mark said it best, you can never have too many.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I was looking at "having" enough mags for the weapon for life! Is 10 mags a weapon a good figure.

I've got 39 mags not including the twenty rounders i'll be using for three gun.

I've got two rifles and one more coming as soon as funds permit.

I think that 5-6 mags per rifle should be sufficient. Depending on intended use. I even think four mags complemented by 3-4 pistol mags should suffice for duty. I don't think that any more would be bad, it would just be extra weight to lug around.

I've lugged twelve mags once plus three mags for my pistol. Way too heavy for it's intended use. The nice part was i didn't have to reload any time soon.

Oh by the way, i like the recommendation of rotating mags to ensure not one fails on you on any given time.

For my civilian stuff I bank about 30 mags / long gun
10-15 for pistols

This allows me to do training courses, range work - and not sweat some stupid mag ban.

Overseas I have 30 mags for my M4 - and 10 for my pistol.
Some in my kit, some on the weapon, some in a bug out and some at our house in case SHTF.
(I had 60 mags in Afghan for my M4...)
I'll build back up a stash soon ;)

I have about 200 GI mags and 80 HK mags at the house, but I only keep about 10 loaded.

I carry 5 on my kit and 12 in a E&E bag in the truck.

The military answer to this question is in their basic load. Generally, its two pouches with three 30 rounders in each and one mag in the rifle. Thats a total of 210 rounds of pure love.

I've found out that most AR owners are recommending at least 20 mags per gun.

I'm a '92 L.A. riots surviver and at that time I only had 10 fully loaded 30 rd mags and only an AR carbine with me.

Currently for home defense I have 4 loaded mags ready in my mag carrier chest rig but I could load it up to 12 mags if there's another SHTF.

I have three ARs and don't have the 20 mags per gun yet but I just keep buying a few every time I see a good deal.

Zip06 beat me to the standard load out of 7. I currently have 10 NIB AR mags and 4 "beaters". My plan is to stop at 20 AR and 10 Glock mags. My load out for 2003 was 5 M9 mags (no rifle!); in 2005 I carried 5 M16A2 mags and 3 pistol mags, w/ more rifle mags in a helmet bag in my HMMMV. For apocalyptic riot type stuff, I would feel comfy w/ 4 rifle mags and 2-3 pistol mags. Situation dictates.

At todays prices you can't have enough IMHO. That said I have 2 AR-15s w/15 30 rounders ea. w/magpul gen 2 followers and either wolf +10% springs or SAW red springs(dont know witch one I like better yet and still have to try ISMI springs). Although I feel I have more than enough for my imediate needs they are wear items and will be disposed of when they wear out. So I still plan on getting more as money permits.

I have 3 AR's and 24 mags (mostly D&H with some Center Industries and a few Bravo Co.) for each gun. My main use for the guns is 3gun matches but I like knowing that I will have good mags available if they are needed.

I have close to 50 AR mags, but only 20 are loaded and 10 + Hi power mags loaded.

I got all mine together for cleaning today. Only have 18 30's and 1 20. I feel like I need around double that amount, at least. Funny thing is, I don't have enough ammo on hand right now to fill the mags I have, let alone double:confused: ! I hope to pick up 2 or 3 K at the 1500 this weekend though.
