Okay, I've sworn off S&W revolvers, since they switched to the lock and MIM. I've seen several recommendations on the 340PD. I don't even like the look of the lock on the side.

Having said that, if I were to get one of these things, is it possible to remove the lock? If it's not possible, I wouldn't even toy with the idea.

Is there something to plug the resulting hole in the side?

By the way, what is the big draw of the 340PD? Just being 3oz lighter than a 442/642?

I feel like I'm cheating myself by even thinking about it...

Thanks.

Just did this to mine. Instead of removing the flag, i ground down the nub. It kept me from having a hole in the side of the pistol where crap could get into the action.

What is the big draw of the 340PD? You hit it on the heat, the weight. Only gun I've found that you don't notice on your ankle, if fact you kind of catch yourself feeling to see if it is still there when you start wearing it. Recoil with the .357 duty loads will definitely have you questioning yourself at the end of a qual course; ouch!
