Form-1 for my 556 Pistol SBR and AAC M4-2000 ('09 model) go out on Tuesday. The 556P is heading back my way from the 'smith after having a Swiss rear diopter housing welded in place. Next it goes to the refinisher to have it phosphated and painted SIG Swiss gray to match the Swiss lower.

My 556-to-552 SBR is almost complete and will be sent back to me sometime next week. The final smithing work is to weld the steel rail welded in place that was removed from a demilled 552 post-sample MG receiver. It will then go to the refinisher for phosphating and painting. Eventually this will wear an Aimpoint T-1 in LaRue mid-height mount.

That is really nice looking. The stock on it is just to make sure it fits? ;)

For an SBR, I'm starting to warm to the SIG rifles. An SBR with a folding stock just makes more sense than a AR platform with a carbine buffer tube out the back. Plus you can start the pistol and SBR it.

Can't wait for the complete rifle pic and report.

What is the OAL with the stock folded to the side?

The rifle pictured already has an approved form-1....it is an SBR. The stock is there to stay. Not sure on the OAL with stock folded, will post a reply once it is back sitting in the safe.

Ah a SIG 556 that I actually like!

Did you have to send it off to get your engraving done or for the stock addition? I thought there was a screw in stock conversion for the 556 Pistol.

This project is contributing SIGnificantly to my SIGness.

556 Pistol form-1 sent in a few days ago. Rear diopter housing welded in place, just waiting on steel rail to be rosette welded in place like on the Swiss guns, then it's off to the refinisher. Have a Swiss lower just waiting to be mated with this barreled upper once all the work is done:

Same smith who is doing the receiver work engraved it for me. I am using a Swiss 551 lower, not the 556P lower. But to answer your question, a 556P lower can accept any M4/M16 stock once you remove the threaded plug in the rear of the lower.

556-to-552 is finished and should be on its way back to me this next week. Then it goes to the refinisher for phosphating and SIG Gray coating.

The 556P SBR is still at my Smith's shop. Picatinney rail stock is backordered so there it waits until he gets some in stock to fab into a Swiss-pattern rail, then rosette weld in place. Then that upper goes to the refinisher.

Pics to follow of the 556-to-552 once I have it back next week.

Very nice. How and where did you have the receiver engraved?

Who's doing the work? And if you don't mind telling how much is it setting you back?

Cheers,

The work is being done by Frank at Antique and Modern Arms. He did the engraving and his preference is to engrave the front right of the receiver.

As for cost, around $4500.

Have those of you who are interested in a 556 SBR seen this? It's certainly not as cool as a 552 but it's a step in the right direction.

Just watched the Kingdom and Miami Vice. Michael Mann really likes those Sig 552s doesn't he?

Any updates?

My 556/552 is back from the 'smith! Next it goes for refinishing. Have not yet fired it, will probably put some rounds downrange this weekend just to see how it handles. Don't mind the cheesy SigSauer red dot; it is just there so I can see how it will be once it wears a T-1.

where did you get your charging handle?

where did you get your charging handle?

It came with the 552-2 kit. That charging handle will not work in a 556; it is 552-specific.
