M14 scope rings

what size ( hi, med, low) if mounting a scope w/out a huge objective? say a hunting type scope.

I know a Pride-Fowler RR800-1 (42 mm objective lens) scope will clear the rear sight aperture (dialed down) and the hand guard with low scope rings (0.250 " high) when mated to a Sadlak/Smith Enterprise three point scope mount.
