S&W just sent me a flyer on their new line of PMAG's! For those of you that own an M&P AR, this will interest you.

They will be offered in Black and FDE (non-windowed version).

Retail is set at $19.99.

Very cool.

The $5 increase is not so cool.

Good for S&W, that is pretty cool.

Also, can you think of one small upstart manufacturing company that has enjoyed the widespread success of Magpul? I cannot.

That's pretty cool.

Nicely done too.

They look like the latest rev of Pmag to boot.

I'm disappointed that the M&P 15 MOE I just got didn't come with one. I might buy 1 or 2 just because.......well, just because.

Oh, does this mean all new M&P 15s will come with PMAGs standard?

I recently went through an the Smith & Wesson M&P AR Armorer's class. We were told that PMags will become standard issue with all M&P AR's. They apparently noticed a statistically significant increase in reliablility during test firing when using PMags over whatever GI style mags they had been using.

Correct (as long as they are a standard model and CAN come with a 30rd mag).

That's neat that they are doing this since a lot of people already have M&P guns out there.

And I realize that this will sound like a smart-ass question, but I really don't mean it that way...

If they recognize that PMAGs are amongst the most reliable mags out there, and they recognize that their lowers don't seat standard PMAGs well, why don't they start producing lowers that have magwells which are more "in spec" and fit standard PMAGs? While I realize that PMAGs can be tight in other magwells too, there are certainly patterns amongst different brands of lowers. Why not treat the base issue?

To be clear: I'm not trying to knock S&W. I'm genuinely curious why they see this as a preferable choice for the long-run, however.

But it is cool that they are offering these, and especially that they are the newest revision with dust covers that snap on the base.

I am not sure how you came to this conclusion. S&W Lowers and PMAG's get along just fine.

In the VERY EARLY days, there was a "fit" issue, but that has LONG since been resolved.

OK, my mistake then. I thought I had read here on the forums a number of people complain about PMAGs fitting into their M&Ps or having to sand their mags. I guess these reports I read were of older models as you note.

Thanks for the correction

It's just branding.

and if you have a good brand like Smith has with the M&P, it is good for business. ;)

Good for them. I think that will actually help S&W by reducing the number of guns they have returned by unlearned customers because "they don't work."

ETA - I think this is just another way the S&W M&P 15 has basically taken the top of the mid-level AR world.
