View Full Version : ACTS - Monthly matches in Michigan
In the event there are any area shooters that aren't aware of ACTS yet...
The American Confederation of Tactical Shooters (ACTS) shoots our monthly match every second Saturday at Centerline of Calhoun (http://www.centerlineofcalhoun.org/) County in Bellevue, MI. We shoot a two gun game with rifle-centric stages to include pistols for relevant transitions. We also emphasize use of cover and firing with movement we found lacking in other arenas. I highly encourage giving our site a look at actshooters.com (http://www.actshooters.com). We draw shooters from a large section of lower Michigan every month. Give the rule book a look and come out to shoot!

We have a really good atmosphere at our shoots, this month we had steel on three of the four stages and the squads sounded like a little league game yelling at the plates to will them to swing :D
eta - Oh, and it was ~35F today. Fun and luckily the ice storm is starting today!

I like that you guys shoot when it's cold. It's a good way to know for sure that your guns, gear, and "plans" work in the cold weather. If you don't test it, it's only speculation.
Down here in Indiana, we used to shoot (USPSA) regardless of the weather, but things have changed. Our 3-gun for yesterday (Sunday 28JAN07) was cancelled because of the weather just because the windchill was below zero. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I don't think the actual temp went below +10F until the sun went down, but I'll admit the 20-30mph winds made it a bit brisk while I was outside for other purposes.
In my opinion, you're not having fun in the cold until all external signs of being male have retracted into your body. :D
I think it's about +6 right now. I'm hoping to go below zero because we haven't done it this winter yet. Too bad there are no matches too shoot!
Our thought is this.........
No such thing as bad weather.............just bad clothing.
un;less its a tornado/lighting we shoot........... its not the typical game shooting either we dont allow comps brakes etc......... no game gear
you shoot what you fight in we have it all from old gi rigs to RAV and ciras and PC's, good first line kits............ to back pockets...........LEO/MIL/Contractors/ good guys and girls....

Rhino - That shot and the one directly above were actually from a class last Saturday. Steve figures something in the neighborhood of 10k rounds downrange. Just have to love the guys (and girls) that come out to learn and train, WX irrelevant. Personally I'm just glad we don't get the snow here that we could be dealing with if we were farther north.

We did have a Gunsite Carbine 123 here at Boone Co. with Capt..er...Sheriff Ken the first three days of December. The weather was . . . brisk (I get corrected when Sheriff Ken notices my use of "brisk" to describe the weather those days, so be ready for it). Almost all of the classes here happen in warm weather, though, and I suspect that December class will be the last.
I'll make another push in February for our matches to go. We did shoot our steel match this month, but it was a almost above freezing and mostly sunny, so it was downright comfy!

I did Pats class in 2006 at Sheriffs Ken's house great place to train.......... mine was in july only 100+ out

Steve, I did get arrested for DUI-L by a Livonia cop (I thought it was Ofc. B.L. his initials) in 2000.
One of the best thing that could have ever happened to me, and I mean that.
It was after a long day of boozing at the Plymouth Pub and then a few hours at the Bench Pub.

Oh, I figured as much. When I was on the phone with Pat today ordering the bullets, he was 'trying' for me to get a butt load of tracers... I will use the tracers at my club. I have 2000 FMJ coming to reload.

So getting the days to match up with no prior's takes skill :)
Roger that, I'm on mids (12's) so when the stars don't align it's 24 hours of PTO for me to make the match. Costly but worthwhile :D
Feb match had 28 shooters show up to test thier mettel against the weather and their own abilitys. Everyone had a great time, we saw the leader board change around a bit and it seems everyone is getting much better. And a HUGE kudos goes out to Centerline Gun Club! The chili was hot the hotdogs were steaming and the pop was cold, again many thanks! We also had a RSO class for those that wanted to step up and help out with what is a very important but thankless job, thank you all for those that attended!
Maybe Resq47 will post some pic's of the match for all to have a look see.:D

These matches are great-- realistic and well thought out stages. Wish I could get over for every one......
