First off I'd like to thank the admins for allowing me to join this fine site.

Now having taken care of that I have a question for you all.
Let me preface this by saying I AM NOT A RIFLE GUY, while I am a big fan of pistols (and like my Mossy Shotgun) I'm not into really into rifles.
What brings me here is I recently aquired an AR from the estate of my uncle.
While I was looking it over, I found a part in a zip-lock that I have no idea what it's for. It was in a bag with a spare magazine.
I've attached 3 pics of this part, and if someone can tell me what it is and what it's used for I'd appreciate it.

Looks like an adjustment tool for setting the elevation of the front sight post.

Front Sight Adjustment Tool.

What kind of rifle did you inherit? Do you know the history behind it?

I'll give you $500 for your new rifle, and that there is part of the internals. Looks like it's broke, a new one will cost you about $250 and then labor for the install. You better just ship that hunk of junk off to me and save yourself the disposal fees... LOL.
Lets see a pic of the rifle! Get some ammo(if you can find it), and your old Mossy will be in the back seat in no time!

My condolences on the passing of your uncle. An AR is a great inheritance if you ask me. Please do post up the make of your gun, and pics as well if possible.

Thanks for the information guys.

The rifle is a beat-up looking old Olyimpic Arms with a fixed stock. I believe he mainly used it for plinking on their property, but who knows.

As for it becoming more of a favorite then my Mossy, I doubt it. For one thing I live in a fairly metropolitian area, not much in the way of rifle ranges arond here, but there are a couple of pistol ranges I frequent, all of which allow use of shot-guns.

Secondly, like I said, mainly I'm a pistol fan, never did really get into rifles.

Thermodyn,
I appreciate the condolences, though to be honest, he lived a long life (87) and we really weren't close. Also the only reason I got the AR is no one else wanted it (most of the family really aren't into guns) and they didn't want to the trouble of selling it (if I hadn't taken it, it would have been given to the local PD to do whatever they decided to with it)

As for pictures, I can post some (eventually) if people would really like, but like I said, it's nothing special, just a beat up basic AR.
