Mid-Western prior to 1955! accent. That's how educated Americans used to speak!

The way the instructor shows how the op rod or rather the charging handle was pushed forward to load the round is why the Army insisted on the forward assist with the M16.

Now I understand why that may have been. But it is a different system and with the M16 a bad idea!

Great stuff on the M1 Garand though.

Some of it in the heat of battle was impracticable but it taught the basics of rifle marksmanship and how to control one's best instinct to rush the shot.

I just think it unique how language/speech changes and alters over time...kinda weird.
