TLR-1 users - what holster are you running? Streamlight just says "fits most existing light bearing holsters" and that's not much of a guarantee if I'm going to send off a chunk of my rather limited gun/gear fund.

I'm especially interested in ones that will hold the pistol with or without the light. I'm not keen on having a holster that won't work without the light. I'd hate for a broken light mount, having swapped it to my carbine, etc. to mean I no longer have a useful holster.

Depending on what holster maker you intend on using it will probably work with the M3 Streamlight holsters just fine.

When me and a few of my swat buddies went to buy our own SF X200A's our dept wouldn't buy new holsters since they didn't buy the lights. We just used our old 6004's for the Glock 22's and 21's for the M3 and they work fine!

Thanks guys.

What I'm learning so far is that despite all the snazzy TLR gun porn on all the boards (guilty as charged), most people must not be buying holsters for them or there'd be more answers to this question...

Safariland makes the 6004 for the TLR-1. I use one at work. They also have released a level III holster with the ALS system for lighted guns. I do believe that Blackhawk also has a level II Serpa holster for the TLR-1.

Comp-Tac makes holsters for them but I don't think it's listed as an option on their site.

Tactical Response gear keeps them in stock in both the belt holster and C-Tac but usually just for G19's

Every M3 holster I've tried fits a pistol with a TLR-1.

Blade-tech, G-Code, Safariland...

I just got my TLR-1 Light for a Glock 17. I have tried in my Safariland 6285 and 6004 holster and it fits just fine. I also have a Blade-Tech holster and it fts great in that too.

The place I bought it at told me that it would fit any holster made for the M3, so far he's right.

I've not had any holster issues when replacing mounted M3s with TLR-1s in Safariland SLS types.

I'm doing some research on holsters, too, and would like some opinions.

My old issue holster was a Safariland Top Gun. (Model #200 or 2005) Plain leather with a thumbreak, not the rotating shroud that seems to be popular now. I liked it a lot, however my bad back forced me into nylon gear, and the issued nylon holster (NOT Safariland) is junk.

Work is still kind of in the stone age and does not allow weapon mounted lights for patrol guys. On the closet gun and when I play, though, I have a light.

I need to get two holsters, one for a G-22 with a TLR-1 (play) and one without (work). For muscle memory, I want them to be the same holster, the only difference being one takes the light and one doesn't. Later down the road I want the same set-up for a G-21 with and without a light.

In playing with the 6004 in the store, it seemed to hold the gun securely (a G-22) both with and without a light attached. Is it meant to be that way or was I playing with a holster that was somehow out of spec?

The shroud sems to be popular, and I've looked a lot and not seen anything negative about it. It seems to me, though, that sand/snow/ice/grit/whatever could really lock up that system...and that won't happen with a traditional thumbreak.

I'm very hesitant to go with the shroud, being a firm believer in Mr. Murphy and the KISS principle, and I really liked the 200.

Ultimately what I'd like is a nylon 200/2005 that will accept a light.

Thoughts/opinions/experience?

Thanks,
Kevin

If you want a thumb snap leather holster that will take a weapon mounted light, get a hold of Bill Murphy at http://www.ftatv.com/home.html. Bill is the lead instructor for Surefire and had an all leather thumb snap holster at the class I took in February. I do not remember who made it but Bill was all over it.

If you have trouble contacting him through his web site you can try to get a hold of him though Surefire.
