is there an easy way to do this, if you want to plink at clays with a carbine?

do they make gizmos to hold them up? i'd like to set them up on the ground.

Something like this (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=710259) perhaps? I've used these before and they work well enough, until they take a few direct hits...

Go to you local farm supply and get some steel fence posts. They will do the job but over time will sustain damage. Cheap & they can be cut into sections to multiply # or to remove damaged portion. If you have a earthen berm they can be pounded in pretty easily.

I've used 1/2" electrical conduit flattened and bent to match the curve of the clay pigeon. they can be made at whatever length/height you want and can be screwed to a target frame to do precision work around a no shoot target. If you hit the holder it is no big deal as it is extremely inexpensive. Sorry no pics.

For a relatively cheap, semi-permanent stand, you can get some small rebar, cut it to the height you want, then weld a cross piece an inch or a little more down from the top (might want to experiment with it). Then you drive the rebar in the ground and hang the clay from the top.

If you don't have access to a welder or cutting tool, I've had luck in the past taking things to corner muffler shops to be welded.

I dug around a little. Here's a thread on The High Road: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=395217

Have you considered the use of saltine crackers instead of clays?

Smaller and so hard to hit, they're also a lot cheaper than clays.

Line em up against a hill side (not close to each other) and let the massacre begin.

And you'll be "green" because bunnies can then eat the crumbs. Gotta think of the environment.

But the clay pigeons are more resilient and easier to see due to the fluorescent colors!

I will dodge your gunfire Wesley Snipes style to eat some saltine crackers...

if you have access to a welder, make a steel plate 12"X14"X1/4", weld two 3/4" angle irons upright with the angles like thus, (top view) <-> weld a steel plate 1/4" or 3/8" thick to the front of the angle irons, this is to protect the clays above the one being shot at, slide the clays down into the angle irons, the one a friend made when i was into muzzle loaders held 12 clays, as the bottom one was destroyed, gravity feeds the next one into position.., yaa i know it sounds complicated but it is really a simple design, this works only for .22RF or muzzle stuffers.

yes, but not for shooting at them.

they are actually verboten at some ranges.

they attract birds.

birds attract shooters who want to plink birds.

5.56 on birds leaves big downy feathery mess.

don't ask me how i know. :D

I either attach them w/duct tape to the backer or cut holes just smaller than the pigeons & press them into place.
