Hello, I was trying to search for some information on shipping a rifle through the mail and I have been having numerous problems...

A number of different search queries such as "sending a rifle" or "shipping a rifle" produced this webpage...

Wish I could help, but I have the same issue. Anyone?

You're not alone, and neither is this forum. Many forum search functions are lame!

But here you have an added threat........if you should ask a basic question here you get beat-up by the regulars for NOT using the search function.

....Hmmm, catch-22?

Maybe try it again. I just typed in " shipping firearms" and got 74 threads!

Still no-go. I think it may be an IE 8 thing, I'll try at work, where we still run IE 6. Or may try Google Chrome.

Chrome's a no-go.

I normally have no problems using the search in Chrome, but it crashes on that phrase.

Could it be that "shipping" is trying to pull pretty much every thread in the sales forum, and that "rifle" is just too common as well, and it's overloading?

I was actually searching "lightweight barrel", but I'll try some other search arguments.

Well, it's not the search arguments fault. I tried a number of random terms, sometimes I got results, sometimes the error page. Sometimes the same term works twice, sometimes not. I am allowing the thirty seconds between attempts, by the way, the site warning page about searching more than ever thirty seconds works perfect!

Using firefox 3.0.11 and trying to search for good places to buy 223/556 ammo online. Once I click submit, it loads a completely blank white page.

seems like we are not alone, I still like the site but hopefully the admins will have a chance to fix it. Maybe we can use this thread to communicate what we are looking for and see if anyone can direct us to relevant threads.

Anyone have a good online site to buy ammo other than:

cheaperthandirt.com
Ammoman.com
ammunitiontogo.com
surplusammo.com

BTW (RE: M&P search)-
I know of an M&P thread because I just bought an M&P15x and used the thread for info. Ill post a link if I can find it.

Here is the breadcrumb to the M&P thread, not sure if this helps you:

M4Carbine.net Forums > AR/M4 > AR General Discussion
> S&W M&P 15 owners

"Your submission could not be processed because a security token was invalid.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error."

This is now the message I get whenever I try to execute a search...could a STAFF or Moderator help out?

Decoded. Try going into your browser settings and delete the m4carbine.net cookie then reload your browser so it will set a new cookie and see what happens.

I've also had off an on results with the search but mine seems somehow related to how many words are in my search criteria or how many results it generates.

i have the same experience- it's only the really important searches that won't work... so long as the search is for something lame, it should be G2G.

FYI security settings at my work make search impossible - but it works at home

I've tried three different types of web browsers on multiple computers and several different networks and am frequently unable to get successful searches. Often times I'll type the exact phrase I used in a post, but search is unable to locate it...

FWIW (and it may not be much:)), I also surf at another forum (iwsti) whose search has always seemed stable and I noticed they run vBulletin 3.8.3. I haven't been able to find release notes for their different patch/version numbers but perhaps its a bug that's been addressed.

Yeah I tried that last night, no dice.

Now it seems to work though. I was searching "benelli" in the shotgun forum with no success.

LOL, I'm on iwsti a lot too and the search works very well.

I have attempted to use the search feature several times and it is not working. When information is plugged into 'search criteria' the screen comes back with a message to wait another 29 seconds prior to requesting a search again.

This is not the first time I have noted this problem. Sometimes if you log-out or leave the site and return it works again. Is this an on-going problem or is it a hardware/ software problem for those members experienceing this problem?

I have used search functions of other sites similar to M4Cs and not experieced this problem.

Thanks,
SkiDevil

I never had any issues with the search function until tonight. Instead of waiting 30 seconds in between searches I am waiting up to 8 minutes.

"This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between searches. Please try again in 483 seconds".

This is along the same lines and I posted it awhile ago hoping there might be a way to upgrade M4C on some different levels... no responses though.

Presently, "New Posts" sends me to the login screen, telling me I'm not logged in and need to be to use that function... i am, of course, logged in already. attempting to log in again, at the page, just takes me back to the login screen.

in searching for this thread, search just gives me an internet explorer "cant find the page" error, as usually happens. had to google it.

So , it's not only me!

Search has been "mostly" GTG for me....until a week or so ago.
Now all I can get are the "wait 29 seconds to do another search" message or better yet " you are no longer on the internet" message.

I'd settle for some of the lame search results that I used to get at this point!!

Gotta go elsewhere for some info that I know is here......sure don't want to get drummed on in a post for not using the search function!! he-he:D

Hope it get's fixed

I've had some luck with just searching through google, entering a search string that looks like

"site:m4carbine.net [query]"

putting my search words where query is with no brackets.

"site:m4carbine.net adc piston" for example. Handy for short words/common word searches.

I've got nothing for the new post search. sorry.
