I am thinking of replacing a rail with standard handguards, as a result, I'm curious what sling attachment options people use. Generally I prefer to attach my slings as close to the delta ring as possible.
I am considering just attaching the sling to the sling swivel underneath the FSB. I played around with it in the past and it seems to work.
Is it any worse / better than the side sling swivel? Or perhaps I should look into the UWL ?

i bet you could bolt a sling swivel to the handguard, but you'd have to do some research to find one that'll be easy enough to modify. otherwise, have you looked at the cable swivel things?

I had the same question and found this thread:

Ordered a UWL and installed it 15 minutes ago. Looks like it will work for me.

You might consider this from Blue Force Gear.

I was speaking with Ashley Burnsed at Blue Force Gear last week about this very question. His outfit makes a widget called the Universal Wire Loop (UWL).

I own three of these already, and have been extremely pleased with their performance and quality. I bought them originally with the intention of looping around the barrel underneath the front sight tower. They work exactly as advertised in this application. The steel cable (strong enough to support several suspended automobiles) is covered with a flexible plastic high-temp coating that doesn't even soften when the barrel/gas block gets hot.

DJK's link shows one being used at the buttstock of an A2. But it works on the front handguard too.

Anyway. Ashley told me that the shorter of the two UWL's (3.25") was carefully designed to just barely fit over the FST, and to lock onto standard handguards tightly. I gave it a try. It's a tight fit over the FST, so it won't come off by accident. And it does clamp into place about 2/3rds down the handguard, perfectly. This is an excellent solution.

If you cut up a short segment of a bicycle inner tube and use it to cover the hardware, it cuts down on the battle-rattle noise against the plastic handguard. A clever guy on this forum taught me that one.

See page 13 on the pdf catalog at the link below.

Sorry... I didn't actually open the video on the 1911 Forum webpage where it is shown perfectly.

But you will notice that I added a link to a pdf and suggested a noise fix. Perhaps you didn't notice that?..... I am sure it is awful dark in that handbasket...;)

Darker in that handbasket than I thought. Obviously no flashlight either.
