Wow. Bravo Company never ceases to amaze. Now I need to decide if I should wait for one of these new uppers or just snag one of the regular BCM middies for my next build.

Some one educate me... Everyone is coming out with hammer forged barrels - why do we want them? Seriously, I understand what it means about the difference in manufacturing, I just don't know what we gain.

They are becoming more available since Daniel Defense got their hammer forging machine operational, and is doing OEM work for other companies.

Yes, but what benefit is derived from a hammer forged barrel?

BCM is not getting their HFB's from DD (FYI).

Generally, accuracy.

Ah, okay. Where do they fall compared to regular chrome lined and SS barrels?

Yes, but what benefit is derived from a hammer forged barrel?

The hammer forged process was developed in Germany during ww2 for the MG42 GPMG the cycle rate of the MG-42 is 1200 rpm and could burn barrels up in a hot minute. Hammer forging creates a denser steel structure so it last longer in high volume firing and from rough blank to finished barrel is faster to produce that is the benefits of hammer forged barrels. BR shooters wont touch hammer forged barrels.

Depends on who made the SS barrel and "regular" CL barrel. Rember that not all SS and CL barrels are equal either. ;)

Out of the Noveske N4 Light barrels, I get .75" groups at 100yds. Out of a quality SS barrel, I will get .50" groups. Most quality CL (4150 ORD/CMV) barrels will produce groups around 1.0"-1.5".

It doesn't change that we are seeing many more CHF barrels on the market due to DD. I would expect it to increase even more in the upcoming year.

I'm not surprised that they aren't getting them from DD.

Agree. There are a lot more HFB options available.

So, Grant, do you think that BCM barrels will fall in line, accuracy wise, with the Noveske N4 Light barrels? But, if the specs on BCM's HFB page are correct, they are going to stick with a 5.56 Nato chamber. So, I guess their intent for their barrel is more along the lines of highly durable, hard use barrel with improved accuracy as a side benefit of the HF process? IF they wanted more accuracy out their HFB, wouldn't they need a different chamber spec? Like, for example, the 5.56 NATO Match Chamber(USMC SAM-R Chamber) they use on their SS barrels?

I think they will be very close in accuracy.
