I have a bunch of accessories mounted to my AR's and was wondering what type of marker is recommended to mark them to ensure they are not working loose even though they are loctited.
Thanks

I've used Testors brand enamel paint markers.

It's seems durable enough, but with frequent use you'll have to touch them up some. I've found that the witness marks on my LaRue anti-rotation device screws and my scope mounts stay on the longest, while my BUIS and castle nut marks wear off the quickest.

There might be a better solution, but I'm not aware of one. The Testors' are simple and effective. I would clean/degrease the area before you apply the paint though.

Hi Colt6933

I'm new to this forum but recently had the same question you did. I have started using a silver Sharpie brand permanent marker for witness marks. The silver version is not as durable as the black version, but works pretty well. Depending on the location of the mark, touch ups are needed from time to time. Degrease before you mark!

Of course now I am addicted to the silver Sharpie and mark all my ammo cans, etc with it.

Thanks for that bit of info on the Sharpie. I was wondering if a red Sharpie would hold up as well as the paint I've been using....I'll give it a try next go 'round.

I tried the colored Sharpies but they were very difficult to see (Unless your weapon is a different color than black I guess). I could barely see the mark unless I held it up to the light, which of course is not viable in poor light.

I use the same stuff I do at work:

A toothpick works good to make a finer line.

I'm glad Harv brought this back up, 'cause I was looking for this thread today...

I found a degreaser-resistant marker for smooth metal and plastic surfaces at McMaster today. Available in different colors too.
