Dear Magpul.

Couldn't you make a refillable oilbottle that fit snugly inside the MIAD(and MOE) grip? I've got a small bottle of SLIP 2000(with an ingenious top) that I'd love to store on my rifle, but it's too big for both my MIAD and my (new, yay) UBR stock.
(I've tried to find other bottles that could fit, but haven't had any luck so far.)

And while I'm in a wishing mode; I also want a girlfriend.

Best etc etc,

Thomas, do you realize a girlfriend would require money that could otherwise be allocated for the next limited edition Noveske/Magpul collaboration?

too funny :p
but on the other hand, great idea!!!!

That actually is not a bad idea. I would buy 1-2.

I'd probably actually use this. The 3-round "oh shit" supply is more likely to get me in trouble than be useful - store 3 in there, and forget they're there, then transport the rifle via plane or have some LEO check my stuff for some reason and get popped for ammo with/in the rifle.

I'd buy 10! That would be a great idea! I've been looking for something to store oil in on the rifle as I think a little oil would come in handy much more so than 3 extra rounds, or extra batteries, or even a spare bolt!

I'm actually in the need of some Noveske goodness, but it's hard to come by here in Norway(though I got to fondle a SPR upper built with a Noveske barrel last week, so it's not impossible)

...I think a little oil would come in handy much more so than 3 extra rounds, or extra batteries, or even a spare bolt!

My point exactly. Oil may fix a non-working gun in seconds, so having it easily accessible is a must IMHO. If you need to disassemble the rifle to fix it(IE changing out the bolt) then a few more seconds to get the bolt from you're gear won't make much difference.

the grip insert is a great idea!

I went online awhile back and bought a ton of mini dropper bottles for this very purpose, I've now got little bottles of EWL everywhere

For anybody that wants a mini dropper to try out PM me

hey! I like the bottle in the grip idea.

Agree, good idea. But, make this bottle a quality bottle with good durable threads and a leak proof nozzle. I hate oil bottles that constantly wick oil out and make a mess of your shooting bag, cleaning table or anything else they contact.

It also needs to be covered in tactical grip tape and have a sling swivel. ;)

Can it also function as a survival knife, carbon scraper, and front sight tool?

This is well beyond the point of simply being a good idea -- this really needs to be done. Brilliant!

I hogged out one of the 3 round plugs for my MIAD and it holds one of those really little bottles (like the size of an MRE tabasco) of "Machine Gunner's Lube" that Larue includes with every order I've placed. It's not enough to seriously get the gun slicked up but plenty to soak the whole BCG or fix an "oh shit"... Give it a try. The 3 round plug is a great idea but I said the same thing first time I saw it figuring I'd forget about them and wind up in trouble.

well is my garage version of this idea, works pretty well and at 1/4 oz holds enough lube to be effective

I've got a couple of these(Gunner's lube) from Larue. I tried to refill one empty bottle, but unfortunately I didn't manage to as it has some kind of seal inside. I actually "loaned" a syringe and needle from work to try to refill it, but no luck.
(I've still got one full bottle left, but I can't find it right now  )

Makarov, it's just a generic 1/4 oz. dropper. I'll see if I can find the email conf. I got from them so Ican give you the site.

Unless LaRue started using different bottles recently, you should be able to refill them no problem. Unscrew the cap and the nozzle part, just above the threads pulls right out.

Also, if you are set on the LaRue battle bottle size:
these are the only ones in stock right now and they're about 2/3 the size of the LaRue bottles
http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/microdrop_dropper_bottle.html

My previous offer still stands, if anyone wants one of those bottles I pictured above just let me know

This thread is awesome.

Aren't the MOE grip cores essentially "hollow"?

The MOE cores could be used as handy homemade mounting bases for clever ideas such as the OP's.

Seriously, I would be far more inclined to use a grip core for oil than just about anything else.

Outstanding! On TOS we made mention for Magpul to offer a solid base that people could Drill/Tap/epoxy on to add what ever they want.

Would be rather nice to see that, I had an idea like that awhile back but never got around trying to make my own. The oil bottle in the grip is a pretty sweet idea too.

Why dont you just drill or otherwise bore out one of the 3r holes and put in a 3ml bottle? Or take the whole rubber insert out and throw a new one in there...

+1 for an oil bottle maximized for the space inside. Definitely needs a good seal to prevent leakage.

I've been made aware of the fact that Slip now sells lube in a small bottle that has the same diameter as a CR123 (http://www.slip2000.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code=60314&Category_Code=EWL).

That's great option, and I'll be getting me some of these.

Magpul still needs to make me a grip insert though, and as of last week I'll be needing 2.

The 7ml breakfree bottle is refillable, slightly wider than a 123, taller than a 123, and fits into MAID grip like they were made for each other.

It would be great if MP (or whoever) made an oil bottle that not only fit inside the pistol grip, but was also specially made to fit the exact contours of the grip. Just shoving a cylindrical bottle inside will still have a lot of dead space, something custom made to the shape of the MOE could allow for more oil to be carried, and also avoid any movement issues inside the grip.

glocktogo
03-28-10, 21:45
I think it would be really nice to see a Magpul grip plug where the lube bottle was part of the insert, refillable and the cap was inset into the grip itself. That way you could just pop it out, lube as necessary and pop it right back in. Nothing to loose and quick to use. :D

Can I have an amazon woman? 7 foot +, lean and fit. Someone that can carry me when I am tired. Someone I can stand in their shadow on hot sunny days. Someone who can throw me down and suck the man juice out of me.

Been working on one of those. Personally we have found the petite ones to be more effective. The taller models tend to have a few issues were working out.

These models are currently being field tested by my sister screenname/unit thing Operational Detachment Badger. I'll let you know how that turns out :p

So some nice people over at SPS (http://www.slip2000.com/) read this thread and offered to ship me a couple of the small bottles for T&E.

Got a package in the mail today:
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4882/hpim15841616248.jpg

The bottles has a removable sprout, so they're refillable:
http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/727/hpim16001606614.jpg

The bottle is a little bit bigger(17,2mm) than a CR123(16,5mm), but due to flexibility it did fit in a CR123 slot. I'd stay away from stuffing these into the Cr123 hole of a gunstock though, as it would be really hard to remove...
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/2518/hpim15851627243.jpg
http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/7932/hpim15861636324.jpg

...It fit's perfectly into the plain(bullet) plug of the MIAD(and MOE) grip though :D
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/9445/hpim15901652522.jpg

I removed the rubber insert, and could pressfit the bottle into the tapered end. It fit like it was made for it, but I don't think it'll hold up with some shaking around though.
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1636/hpim15881645130.jpg

I like to have the ability to do some emergency cleaning, so I had some patches and some cottonbuds stuffed into the grip(with the minibottle from LaRue)
The Slip bottle fit well with the other stuff:
http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/4851/hpim15921664212.jpg
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/5417/hpim15961674955.jpg

No rattling at all :D

This is a great idea, I already have battery storage in my stock so I've been wondering what would be useful that I could put in my grip storage area. I'll have to order a few of those SLIP bottles but I would really like MAGPUL to make one that fills all the wasted space.

On the other hand, emailing Magpul actually work; I just received some replacement parts for a PRS stock, free of charge. To Norway.

So, 3 years later and I've just received Magpul's 2013 SHOTshow newsletter. Guess what...

The MIAD (Mission ADaptable) GEN 1.1 Grip (MSRP $35.95) is a drop-in replacement for standard grips, and is now available in both 5.56 and 7.62 configurations. It is designed to improve ergonomics with an aggressive texture for positive weapon control and interchangeable front and rear straps for personalized hand fit, and is compatible with all Magpul Grip Cores. The new MIAD Grip will also now come with the newest grip core; a lubrication bottle storage core.

Yay!

And Magpul, my commission will be 3 of these puppies ;)
