A guy at my local IDPA club does a unique spray on finish for guys who shoot in SSP but want something grippy that does not move them into ESP.

He used to work in the Marine industry and does a 3 layer coating. He has done it for years on glocks and I approached him about doing it for AR mags. Recently, I dropped an AR mag when sweaty on a stage and was unhappy to say the least, time added is no bueno.

This coating would be great for those with gloves on or in general shitty weather conditions.

Here are 2 mags, one Pmag and another USGI alum mag.

I am going to have him do a few more comp mags I use, only add another inch of coating, the pics show approx 2 inches high of coating, I think 3 would be perfect!

About the coating from the owners webpage:
"The blue enhanced slide at the top of every page is an actual Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) image done on a coated plastic spackle knife by a very satisfied customer. The slide has a 1mm scale to reference in the image. Note the matrix of trapped particels that allows moisture/dirt/oil to escape and stand away from the control surfaces of the hand. Tacti-grip actually feels BETTER when it is wet!"

I like that idea.

I wonder how it would effect mags in a double mag pouch?

Thanks for the info

Anxious to hear how it holds up. I wonder if he could apply that to the front strap of my SIG. It has to be better than the skateboard tape I am using now. I am going to have to dig through my gear tomorrow and look for other applications for this coating.

Yes you can use it on your sig.

This guy has done a ton of glocks for SSP shooters. its legal for SSP without moving you into ESP, I just needed the mags done, he can do anything.

It reminds me of the Line-X (spray in) bedliner in my truck.

I was thinking the same thing.

That is what it appears like to me, however its a fine grit.

Spoke to Bobro the other day. Let me know if you make it down for any matches in the GA, SC, or the South East!

I got some Duplicolor bedliner spray in a can and did a bunch of my mags with it.

It seems to be good stuff and gives a better grip than the bare metal mags.

I probably can't make it, maybe next year. The weekend before is the NC Recon match (both Sat and Sun). My wife would kill me if I was gone to two whole weekends. ;)

I do plan on shooting the Blue Ridge 3gun next year. I try every year to get into Ft. Benning but to no avail.

I like that. It looks better than skateboard tape. How does it compare traction-wise?

Is it rubbery or gritty?
