Does any one know of a web site or company that sells parts or kits to build your own Garand or M14?

You cant put together a M-1 or a M1A1 like you can an AR-15 you need a lot of tools and knowledge you have to ream the chamber after you install the barrel ext.ext.

Best way is to buy a from these guys

I can't speak to the M1 but buying a complete rifle is the best way to go for the M14 type rifle. As mentioned above, it takes some special tools and knowledge to "mate up" the barrel, receiver and bolt properly on the M14. There's more variation with the commercial receivers as compared to USGI receivers so it can get tricky. There's things to check (and potentially fix) like bolt roller clearance, bolt lug engagement with the receiver, receiver bridge firing pin recess, etc. Jerry Kuhnhausen's M1 and M14 shop manual shows what is involved in building one of these rifles.

You can't build your own M14 without a lot of knowledge. It's not like an AR. Depending on what cost your closest too I'd look up a M14 armorer on your area and see what they can do. I bought all my parts individually and found a armorer a couple hours form my house to build it, I lucked out.

A basic LRB rifle built by them will run you some where in the neighborhood of 2100-2600 depending on options + about a year or more wait.

Or you could contact at builder who is also a dealer for LRB and speed up the process.

Stick with USGI, Smith Enterprises, and LRB parts and you'll be good to go.

Another company to look at for both is Fulton Armory. They specialize in both complete guns and parts.

Fulton is pretty slow.....

Unless you want some kind of unusual configuration in an M14 style rifle you are probably much better off buying an off the shelf M1A or LRB for the money. If you want a forged versus cast receiver you will have to find an LRB receiver(one on Gunbroker now for around 1K) or find a Polytech. Personally Id look for an older Springfield that has USGI parts. I've got an LRB and like it alot but its not for the faint of wallet...

These weapons are the last of the forged steel/walnut military rifles so they do take some gunsmithing skill to put together. Things are not exactly drop in like the AR15.

I met up with Ted Brown at the SHOT show and considered him at the top to contact for a M14 build.

Do you want to shoot .308 in a M14 or .30-06 in a M1. Surplus .30-06 is plentiful right now or you can have a M1 built for .308. Open sights or a scope? Clips or mags? Lots of choices!!:D There are several guys still building M1s. Most are retired Marines, although there a few younger ones that are really "modernizing" the Garand. Best bet is to forget a kit and buy a rifle from the CMP, then shoot it and see if you like it. You can send it to a smith later or move over to a M14. Email me if you need the names of some Garand smiths.

You can buy a parts kit less reciever, but knowledge is key. LRB is a great way and he's a great guy, has some terrific smiths working with him, another guy is Jon Wolfe at http://www.m-14parts.com/, really nice guy with real GI parts.

Fulton blah. blah... You want as reall as you can get? GET ONE MADE BY JON Y. WOLFE AT M-14 PARTS.COM. He uses only USGI if available and is a master craftsman where M-14's are concerned. Go to M-14tfl.com and do your research. I would have waited 1 year for an LRB, Jon is building it as I type in 2weeks!:p

I've got an 80% Garand receiver I'd be willing to sell ya....been sitting on it for a while and don't really see myself doing anything with it. Just never put the thing up for sale.
