Thought I'd post this for those who might find it interesting.
Google has a bunch of public domain books on shooting. Though there isn't anything in the way of modern firearms, there's much on fundamentals and hunting, and many of the books would likely be good for those researching old firearms and shooting methods.
I'm currently skimming Shooting for Boys (http://books.google.com/books?id=lXACAAAAYAAJ&printsec=titlepage#v=onepage&q=&f=false)
