F#$@!$% gun safe is driving me nuts. I know the problem, its too small. But, there's not a new one in my future. So...

If you've got a ton of guns stuffed into a smallish safe in an orderly fashion, share some tips. If you've got a giant safe I'll take your advise too :) Mostly looking for DIY tips, not wanting to drop a guns worth of cash on some system.

It would be great if this could be a bit of a PIC thread for those of us who have trouble visualizing.

Thanks :)

Have you tried putting a few rifles muzzle down? That might help.

you could try mounting handguns on the door with empty bobbins (saw this on The High Road) or using velcro and cheap unlce mikes holsters for the door. Or buy a pistol rack that holds the gun vertically in a row, Again you could build your own with a 1x4 and some dowl rods.

As for long guns, you could look at the manufacture of the safe and see if they have other set ups for your safe style. Or you could remove the old system and install new racks you built your self. Just use your imagination. You can generally remove the organazation system out of your safe so dont let that stop ya!

I get most of my idea's from looking at threads like "show the inside of your safe" lol I know there is an old one on the high road that is kinda lengthy and maybe an old one on XD talk.

Guns like the Ruger Charger can be suspended by their grips by a loop at the top of the safe, with the bipod bracketing the muzzles of rifles in their slots. Reckon you could do the same with anything that has a pistol grip and a bipod. Bipod holds the hanging firearm off the ones in the rack. . . . I used a loop of plastic tube with braided something or other within it (ripped the handle off of some fancy shopping bag the wife came home with, looked like just the right material to hang a Ruger Charger from the top of the inside of the gunsafe). Adjustable closet/ curtain type rod will give the loop something to hang from. Have to move the hanging gun out of the way to get at the gun(s) in the slots under it . . . but that really isn't a big deal.

That is the cheap space fix I have going in my safe, not because all my slots are full, but because that little range toy is a space hog . . . won't fit on the pistol/ ammo side and it is too small to sit up proper like a long gun.

Yep, tried that. Not really any more room and far less stable.

Looking at it again yesterday, first I think I need a light in there. Then I might just pull out the side shelves and try to figure out some door storage for the handguns. Maybe try to put in one full width top shelve.

-Pull off bipods if you have any.
-Pull the inside door panel off if it's just a few inches that you need. Make sure the action arms of the safe do not hit anything. (Did this for a while when I was waiting on covering a new cutout for the muzzles.
-Do you keep anything other than guns in your gun safe? A small document safe that's fireproof can keep all those silly wedding pics, wills and Birth Certs for around $100.
-Store guns sans magazines, mags on top of the safe or somewhere else.
-Sell one gun, buy another gun safe (cringes at this one, yeah I'm guilty of this, but it was necessary)
-These Pistol Racks (http://www.deansafe.com/dri-6gun.html) work great as well for increasing space.

Have modified mine at least 4 times and still looking for more room. Fabricated shelves from steel, covered with fabric and attached to bottom of existing shelves. Door panel helped a lot, used pivoting aluminum brackets to hold holsters, knives, and other items. Fabric covered strip magnets secure extra barrels and other items. Interior is fitted with a fluorescent lighting kit picked up from Fort Knox.

My wife and I went a slightly different route for our safe door.

And we did solve the problem of over crowding....

We bought a second safe! :D
