View Full Version : 1 point sling, which one to buy?

I have a two point sling and like it. But thought I would try a 1-point just to check it out. Who makes the best one? And any comments about it.

Also, on the two point, where do you prefer to attach the forward QD swivel? When I attach close to the mag well, it seems to interfere with mag changes. And for a right handed shooter, which side do you attach on the buttstock/Sopmod using QD swivel? Inside or outside?

I played with all the above (points of attchment) in the desert this weekend and do not want to create any bad habits and want to minimize my learning curve.

Thanks for the help.

I prefer a sling attachment point close to the delta ring. When the rifle is properly slung, it does not interfere with mag changes.
I prefer to attach the sling on the inboard side of the stock. I tried it with the outboard but found that if I transition with the rifle being ejection port towards me, and then need to bring the rifle up, the butt stock would often times get hung up on the sling webbing.
There was a comprehensive thread posted a while ago with various sling attachment options. See if you can find it.

I really like the SOG Armory Sling. I saw it at SHOT and the wide straps are very comfortable. The bungie cord really helps absorbing the weapon drop during transitions. I don't have too much training tied into it (we have to use 3 points at work). I do plan on using it in a class down the road and would be able to give it a more in depth review.

The only single point sling I've kept is the Wilderness Single Point Sling.

For 2 pt slings I run VTACs with the front mounted to the rear of the inboard rail and outboard of the stock. Works well for me.

The only single point sling I've kept is the Wilderness Single Point Sling.

I find myself constantly going back to that, or trying to make other slings operate like it.

Magpul's MS-2 Sling allows you to run either single or two-point and in my opinion offers the best of both worlds. Now, if it were possible to lay hands on one right now....

Single Point: GearSector.com

Make sure you get a 2nd generation wherever you end up purchasing.

I've been running a BFG Simple Sling single point on a DD Rear Receiver QD Swivel Mount on my SBR lately and I really like it.

The sling is as the name implies, a Simple Sling. No emergency quick release and no quick adjust. On this setup I find I need neither.

The DD mount allows rotation to either side for quick transitions. And I can easily remove the sling from the rifle without unthreading it.

Having never before run a single point type setup, I found this an inexpensive and quality way to try on out.

I have a couple of Troy single point slings and they have done me well. I would recommend getting a single double since you can now.

Can the Troy or Wilderness be used with a QD swivel. Two of my AR's have the QD plate already, so I would prefer to not change them.

Thanks for the help so far.

FWIW, I have tried both the Troy and the MS2, as well as others, and still prefer the Wilderness.

I run mine attached to a QD pushbutton swivel in a Daniel Defense receiver endplate mount.

I like the Magpul MS2 on a ASAP plate.

For guns equipped with QD plates like the DD and Noveske I like the GEAR Sector ASP single point slings.

Haven't tried the MS2/ASAP yet, but I've had stellar service from my CSM Gear single point.

I did get my Wilderness, I like it well. Its my first one, but it felt pretty good at first try in the desert.

Does anyone else find that when wearing a chest rig the single point slings have a tendecy to rub accross your neck?

I just rigged out a gun with a set up exactly like gotm4's DD Quick disconnect with a Gear Sector Gen II ASP.

Maybe I just need to make some adjustments ???

There's a reason why you see guys in T-shirts wearing scarves of some sort or another. Hell, even with collared armor...

Between harness straps, slings, and hot brass careening down your collar, it's nearly a requirement to keep your neck from getting ground to hamburger or develop some spectacular blisters.

You have a lot of material vying for the same location.

One thing that helps is if you have an "H" harness on the chest rig instead of an "X". Unfortunately I haven't found a rig with an H that I like the other features as well as my current Eagle with the X, so I just deal with it. Collared shirts help, although if you're on the line they open you up to issues with hot brass getting caught. If weather permits something like an Under Armor cold gear with the mock turtle neck helps too.
