I would probably spend it on shooting. I need more of everything, guns, range time, ammo, gear, hunting time. I haven't found something that comes close to shooting in regards to being simultaneously relaxing, exciting, and satisfying.

Dirtbikes!... Can we only have one? If multiple, then dirtbikes, guns, muscle cars and I'd hot rod the heck out of my Cummins powered Ram. That ought to keep me busy.

i'd probably travel more...

although I've always wanted to learn to restore older cars....

and I wouldn't mind learning to fly...

but truthfully...if money were no object, it wouldn't change my time obligations a whole bunch...i would still want to focus on raising my sons...

Pistolsmithing, military sniper rifles, wine, nice timepieces, vintage sports car racing (mid 50s to the mid 60s), and...what the hell...fly Russian gunships at airshows.

Definitely shoot more and buy a lot more guns. I would race more, like ZDL said, that doesn't mean I get to do that much now but would definitely do more of it. The STi would become a track only toy instead of a daily driver. I'd play in the World Series of Poker. Buy and restore a 67 SS Chevelle. Learn how to woodwork. Get my pilots license. And do ALOT more camping.

First and foremost, I would probably travel to the worlds greatest mountain bike trails and ride em. After that would come various hobbies from shooting, RC airplanes, blacksmithing, bladesmithing, damn near any form of "smithing". As well as SCCA autocross racing.

Since my job is considered a "hobby" and I travel a lot as a result, and don't need much more training I would have to say shooting. This is very much my new hobby, and a re-birth of what I did with my father when I was younger. I would purchase a couple of more guns, and some reloading equipment, better optics, and take a few courses, and maybe schedule time to fly my dad and myself back to WY for two weeks a year hunting in the Wind Rivers.

I have been thinking a lot about horse back riding though lately...

rjacobs
08-05-09, 22:37
Same. I would race more. I say that like I do it a decent amount which isn't true. Only a few times but loved the hell out of it and can't get it out of my system. Wish I had more time, knowledge, and money to do it more often.

Somewhat of a futile endeavor in some respects as it can be prohibitively expensive, the slim chance of being the "best driver", and the sheer amount of time it takes up. How 9-5 family guys get out there on consistently on the weekends is beyond me. It sure is fun though.

I am a fairly decent driver, been driving high HP sports cars for a few years, but I dont have anything to drive now, just a truck. I have a few ideas for some extremely high end builds for a few different types of cars.

If I couldn't build some ridiculous cars my other thing would be warbirds.
-P51D Mustang
-Some type of turbine warbird(F86 or something else rare)
-T28B-Navy version has 1400HP(The T28A-Air Force version only has 800HP)
-L39 Albatross Jet trainerr

Money no object? You know, I just typed a bunch of stuff, then erased it and re-typed something else trying to come up with the best use of limitless funds. I realized the perfect answer (for me at least). If money was no object, I would buy all of the remaining of the below pictured craft and would fly the ever living sh*t out of them because they are cool as hell:

There was an air show a couple of weeks ago at a base near where I live. Among the things to see was a U-2 flyover (the aircraft pictured above). Let me tell you, these things are the shiz. They are definitely a lot faster than they look (especially when climbing practically straight up). On the last flyby, the pilot flipped on the afterburner and about a 45 seconds later he was probably cruising somewhere around 70,000 feet. I thought it was pretty darn cool.

Back to the OP's original question: If money were no object, I would send myself to flight school, and become pilot.

DEBT.. I'm surprised no one said that..I don't suppose too many on here have college loans they're still paying off. My wife and I both are. I'd pay off whatever debt we have...once that's over.. Buy a nicer house for us..in TEXAS or some other 2nd Amendment friendly state... and homes for the family. Buy some new cars for everyone I care about. Then I'd go on the real tear... GUNS GUNS GUNS. Ammo...All manner of toys. That's about it I guess. And maybe open up a top notch range/school like Gunsite, Valhalla, USTraining/Blackwater. That would be the fun part. Then I'd like to learn how to fly helicopters and planes..and how to fix cars..some other crazy stuff. Oh..and more GUNS OF COURSE!

Just one? I'd get back into horses. I used to show jump, eventing and dressage, 'course I played on trails too. I loved it and it kinda went by the wayside when I married my first wife & it became all about our motorcycles. I still love motorcycles, but I really miss the horses. Of course money is no object, so I am going to need 600 or so acres someplace of the Blue Ridge/ Appalachian nature, a decent house, stable, indoor and outdoor arenas (preferably the indoor arena atached to the stable), I am going to need tractors for planting and harvesting my own feed on some of the acres as well as a Bobcat and a backhoe for moving earth for berms and digging/ building the cross country course obstacles. Jumping a horse over a fence into a shallow pond is cool, running the horse into the shallow pond and jumping a fence out of the water is even better. I MISS it! Of course I am going to need about $60,000 in Irish Sport Horse for fun, a Gray Hanoverian to show on, a Morgan would be a good fit for my wife and maybe a couple of ponies though my kids are too young for them ;);) Afterall, if I am going to get back into a hobby & cost is no object, I need to take my little family into the hobby with me. I have always thought a sleigh would be fun in the wintertime and an Amish-esque buggy would also be kinda fun, would need a warmblood to pull those. So a six horse stable would be a minimum. Cost being no object, I am going to need an income to sustain all that from property tax to the heating bill in the indoor arena & taking care of all that would pretty much be a fulltime job so I'll need a million $ a year or so to take care of living expenses and allow me to devote myself fully to the hobby without the distraction of something like a job. Wells, geothermal, windmills . . . lets take this whole project off the grid and make it green since price is no object. Oh, can't forget the truck and horse trailer.

Fun thought. I'd been thinking more about getting some saddle time in & this topic just made the itch worse. I even miss the smell of picking hooves.

Building custom choppers and furniture and involving the 12 year old in doing so. Full shop from machining to welding to leather to wood to paint.

It's frightening to me how few kids around here have any concept of how things go together, or how to fix or work on things. When I was a kid my dad worked on the house and cars because he had to, but now that I can afford to pay someone else to do these things I realize that it means the kid has no concept of what makes the world go 'round.

Building choppers and furniture would satisfy my need to work with my hands, and the skills needed would hopefully rub off on the kid.

I've always enjoyed shooting, helping people in need, and being around sun and saltwater. This only lends itself to one hobby.

I would buy a brand new cargo ship and all the shipping containers I could fit on it. These would be full of mini-guns, anti-tank rockets, Flame Throwers, MK-19s, M-240s, M249s, M-16s, M-4s, AKs, night vision gear and and a few million rounds of ammo. I'd act like I was having mechanical difficulties and anchor about a 1/2 mile of the coast of Somolia in the middle of the night and wait to be attacked by pirates.

I'd sell tickets for my cruise, rent weapons and gear, etc. I'd buy an A-10 Warthog and hire a retired A-10 Warthog pilot to circle overhead and provide close-air-support.

Or, I would volunteer my time at a rock quarry blasting rock all day long. :D

if I had unlimited funds...

buy my guns.. pistols, rifles and shotguns.
Build a weapon room all walls with screens and guns being hung.
Center of the room is a work bench, a lathe, milling machine, spray booth (for spray on coating) and oven. So I can work on my guns. of course.. let's not forget complete tools
door will be automatic doors made of stainless steel. Entry is through fingerprint scan or voice command (maybe voice is too techy).

I need a work Car, a Range Car, a Formal Car, a play car and a race car.
My range car should be a mini van. modified to fit guns. so i can go to the range in comfort driven by a chauffer of course

Then there's my yacht. or better yet buy the sub as the above post. This would be my out of town vehicle. I'll use this to shoot out of town assuming that it can be access by water.

Then there's my Private helicopter. I'll need it to shoot out of town if it's unaccessable by sub.

Just a dream though

As a hobby the margins just have to be not too negative. If you are doing it for a living they must be positive, even if the rain falls and the cows go sour. I like having a full head of non-grey hair too much for that :p

Unlimited funds.... Hmmmm....

Go back to school and get some education... one has to be smart enough to deal with that kind of money.

Invest and store a majority of the funds in off shore accounts with a direct deposit to a local account that maintains a specific balance. Make sure that the principle isn't touched by using a portion of the interest to live while returning the remaining interest back to the principle account to insure growth.

Purchase a couple hundred acres in a properly scouted area. Build a small (by appearance) highly secure home with a few "special" unknown features.
Purchase the necessary equipment to be able to maintain ingress and egress regardless of weather... an "up armored Humvee" comes to mind.

Then I would start building my business...
A metal fab shop of my own... lathes, mills, drill press, shears, nibbers, rollers, MIG, TIG, Stick welders, spot welders torches, plasma cam, grinders band saws and racks of steel.

I can build most anything someone is willing to pay for. I just need my own tools and space too work.

Of course since were all dreaming about money that most of us will never have...

When I'm not in my metal fab shop making stuff...
I'll either be shooting on my private state of the art range or driving around the United States in my custom built up armored RV seeing the sights.

Sometimes it's nice to dream about these things... the hard part is realizing that I'm still awake.... ahhh reality.

Porsche GT cars: 997 GT3 Club Sport, 997 GT2, Carrera GT; fixed wing pilots license; maybe a Ducati 1098S - or a Honda CBR1000RR. Enroll in multiple driver/rider schools and drive the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Ferraris valued highly as well: F430 Scuderia; Audi R10 just because. I like sports cars, sport bikes and airplanes and bikes way more than I could ever hope to like firearms. If I could "start over" with the money I'd attempt to become a successful sports car race driver.

i would build a home similar to Daniel Plainview's on thousands of acres and within it i would have a room that would consist of mahogany cases on the wall that would have the uniform, weapon, and write up of them for every major battle since the American revolution. i would bare many children with my wife as well.

Hmm interesting. I already do my hobby/love for my job. I get to spend all day with my kids (as my shop is on the same property as my house).

So for a new hobby, I would most likely build a complete machine shop buy several CNC machines, hire the most talented people to run everything and then start to make all the things that I think are missing in the gun world (Parts, Guns, etc).

Season long hiking trips/expeditions, and traveling in general. I would through-hike the Appalachian trail, the Oregon trail, the continental divide etc. Probably fine arts as well. Seeing acts like Boccelli can cost an arm and leg especially for good seats. I would be able to see him in Italy!

1. I would build my own race track, and then start collecting and racing exotic and vintage sports cars, race cars and motorcycles.

2. Build a global security service and training facility that would make Blackwater look like a day care center.

3. Also collect and fly WWII fighter planes and military type helicopters.

4. Buy and refurbish an old pirate ship and sail the world with the SEAT girls as my crew..

if money were no limit... well im only 20 yrs old so, this is real promising for me...

- I would finish up my degree in international relations, except I would probably opt to get it from FSU.

- After getting my degree I would still join the Navy in hopes of becoming a SEAL.

-Put in 5 to 6 years as a SEAL.

-Have my dad teach me to fly helicopters, and all the jets hes flown through out his piloting career.

-Start my own private military company complete with ships, aircraft etc... and roam the world killing bad guys. Pirates, Islamic terrorists, thugs in third world countries, drug kings....

-Buy more guns, shoot more, and train more.

-Restore some old muscle cars. and buy some nice cars.

-Pick up a 2008 Dodge 3500 Dually 4x4 w/ 6.7L cummins, 6spd Auto and mod the shit out of it (daily driver)

-Buy a bunch of vintage aircraft.

-Buy a huge, nice piece of land in Montana

Upon further review, purchase 100 or 200 acre spread, with my own landing strip, a Falcon Jet, set up a private shooting range and host carbine, pistol, and long range classes. AND of course, several Noveske rifles, bribe Larry Vickers into making one more of his custom .45s, and a metric shit load of ammo.

Tank restoration and collecting!!! I wonder if you can have them register has DD devices for firing cannons? Oh well I could bribe the government since money is no object.

I saw a guy doing that on the history channel once, restoring tanks. I thought it was really cool.

I would definately buy a P-51D.Then,every firearm that i wanted.(mg-42/34,mp-44,Dillon Aero minigun mounted in it's own huey of course! Every sniper rifle of historical importance, etc.)
A Bugatti Veyron,Ferrari Enzo and about 20 other high end automobiles.A bunch of restored tanks and apc's with a place to drive em and have fun with them also.I guess in a nutshell,my property would look like the Blackwater facility.15 thousand acre's with my own runway/airport for my old warbirds.A shoothouse,1000 yard range with a bunch of other ranges of varying distances.A nice 4-5 mile road course to race my cars on.etc.That's a short list.

I just have some very cool friends. I'm pretty lucky.

A friend asked me, about this time last year, if I wanted to go get an airplane in Illinois. I thought we we're going to pick up a civil airplane. It was top secret. He told me what we were going to get, and all I had to say was, "Really?, No Shit? Really?".

I had heard about the plane for years, just like every warbird fanatic has. It was the "Storm Window Corsair". The timeline is, Corsair is built, Goes to Hawaii, comes back, gets surplused, window dude buys it, gets ex military pilot to fly it back, plane "tests" storm windows for a zillion years, plane is sold as part of a group to two dudes,(One was Race 87), one dude puts it in a hangar, years later, buddy asks me to go to illinois to retrieve it. It was a fun time.

Look for it at Osh Kosh in about 8 years.

Here is a thread I posted about it on another board,
http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23831&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I'm really lucky, hopefully it keeps up.:)

I'd prob just take my current list of interests and get very serious into them using the money to get to the top of the heap of folks doing it. Drag racing, mosnter trucks, sled pulling, shooting, camping, kayaking, R/C cars, drinking beer, fancy clothes, electronics, travel. I would not be bored. I'm sure I would find some new things to get into as well.

Also, maybe I would get medicated for what my wife says is a disorder I have, I grab a new hobby every 12-24 months and become completely absorbed by it. When I have had enough, I drop it and turn for the next new thing to dive into. It is a never ending cycle.

Wow. Thanks. I just went through the entire story of the T-28. He did an AMAZING job on that thing. My dad had a T-28 back in the late 60's. I wonder where it is now. The link for the Corsair progress in the thread you posted wouldn't work for me.

hmm, first thing would be to build a few more sbr's and start the paperwork and purchases of 2 more suppressors of every caliber. then i think the next thing would be ammo. lots and lots of ammo. then i would probably throw pair of turbos on my car, along with a driveline and suspension suitable for drag strip use. after that, payoff my house. i know i probably left the parameters set by the op, but eh, its fun to think about anyway.

1. I would get my pilot's license for fixed and rotary aircraft.....and buy a chopper and a seaplane.
2. A nice Carolina sportfishing boat, which would be used to travel an endless summer spent fishing.

Read this whole thread a few times and been thinking on it.

Only thing that comes to mind is a long visit to Grant after I buy a large chunk of land in a class 3 friendly state, then supervising the building of my family's new home.
I think the wife would be happy to decorate everything on the inside but the outside and supply rooms are mine.

Oh and after all the toy's are put away properly, we would go on a vacation to some places we both would love to see.

I love motorcycles, and ride extremely frequently. I just wish I had the dough (and storage space) for multiple bikes.

If money were no object, I'd be SCUBA diving a lot more. As we all know, SCUBA gear is 'spensive, but being that I live in TN, it's the travel cost that's the killer.

Skydiving. It's the only thing I asked for on my 18th birthday and I still haven't managed to put it together. Hopefully I'll get the army to pay for it here in the next few years...

Also car modding/racing. There is literally no limit to the amount of money you can dump into one car.

It'd be shooting right now. If $$$ really became no object, learning to HALO jump with the a company in Memphis I heard of a few years ago. $3500/jump tandem last time I checked....

I'd love to do some backpacking/big game hunting in alaska, and Helo lessons. If I can figure out how I'm gonna get my helo license while I'm patrolling after I get out of the academy for the agency I just got accepted to.....
