Alright I am brand new to the forum and I did a search and did not find a thread like this. I just bought my first gun safe and was looking for some ideas on how people set them up and where they store different items.

Thanks in advance

I would but unfortunately I took my safe along with all of my guns and ammo out to the lake and they proved too heavy for my boat. They pushed it down, flooded the boat, and now they are all 600ft underwater.

While most of us do not like to "display" the guns that we didn't lose in freak boating accidents.....happens alot I hear... there are thread on other sites about this very thing with some good pictures and posts of how people set up their safe.

Could you possibly point me in a direction or maybe give me the name of a site? I understand people wanting to be secretive, but I figured with the number of picture threads of peoples collections on here that at least some of them would be willing to post inside their safe..... Guess I was mistaken.

You too? And my insurance wouldn't even cover it. The insurance company told me most people only carry a shotgun and some shells when they go duck hunting.

notlownf - does your safe have a customizable interior, or is it set up a certain way already? i'm asking because pics of other people's safes might not help, unless you're looking to fabricate the interior.
plus, there are so many different sizes, brands, etc that how one might be set up may not be possible with another.
with the long guns, they just stand vertically in the rack - not many variations of that setup.
maybe it'd be helpful if you take a picture of your own safe, so we can see how it's currently set up, and then people may offer suggestions on improving it. at least then, all the feedback is specific to your safe.

It is customizable. It's a 24 gun Cannon. I will take pics once I get it in place and everything in it.... it's currently sitting in the garage waiting to be brought in the house..... waiting for reinforcements.

Although my 3 guns are going to look pretty week compared to some of the collections ive seen here.

Thanks again for all the help everyone.

Sarcasm and paranoia aside, this thread has the potential to be epic.

I recently started a thread about how to organise my disaster preps.

My firearm/accessories stash is a catastrophe in a corner. I am in serious need of inspiration.

One thing I do to give me more space is by having a peg board on the door. I use hooks and hang pistols by the trigger guard. I've got a universal type set up with three shelves on the left which hold my knive collection, optics and some emergency ammo. Rifles are stacked to the right. Don't have a pic to show.

Well, I don't have a safe pic at the ready, but I have not lost my guns in a boating accident, fire, theft, nor have I sold them.

I'm a proud American gun owner.

GlockTalk has a few threads. One guy took a big ole mess and turned it into a nice neat safe.

If you want to customized set up without the nice carpeted pieces, then plywood is your friend. I took some security cabinets from Wally World and made shelves for ammo.

Actually mine isn't that much to look at. My pistols are on the shelves so there isn't much to see. What I have mostly are old long guns my father left to me and my
M&P15.

It appears to me the black one has more room inside, am i correct, or am i seeing things?
whats the model of that black one?
Did you install the shelves inside and the racks for the rifles?
I understand that you did the pegboard.

What size is molle webbing?

I make other stuff out of webbing so I have a sewing machine to use, I just dont know what size it is. Just so I can make my own stuff.

Thanks. I have been looking at products and they never mention the size of the webbing. I got a sewing machine for something else, this is just another of a million things that I can use it for.

The two safes in question are commercial bank safes. The black one has a file safe that came with an open interior and removable shelves. I made the rack from wood and tried to maximize the space to hold as many long guns as possible. Scopes are a big pain in the ass and just eat up room. Plan accordingly if you have scoped hunting rifles or precision long range work guns.

If you look around you can usually buy these types of safes used and if you get the correct configuration they make great gun safes as they are just more secure than anything you can buy that is considered a "gun" safe. NOTE: they are a huge pain in the ass to move and due to their physical weight sometimes limited in their placement. I have had them in the garage and basement and I can tell you that going down is always a lot easier than coming up. Currently these are in the garage at my new home but that is not an issue for me seeing that it takes more than two men and a truck to move them. I have some smaller more maneuverable gun safes in the house but don’t put a lot of faith in them in the event of a fire.

When planning, keep in mind that ARs can also be a pain to store due to their configuration and size. Typically if you run collapsible stocks they will need to be extended if you wish to store up right in most provided racks and SBRs end up lying on shelves or up against one another. Lights and lasers also eat up valuable room and always seem to steel from the rifle next to them.

I have a gun safe that some guy called a 28 gun but the best I can get out of it is 14 ARs because of the overall size of each with optics. Maybe it would hold 28 shotguns or Red Rider BB guns. Keep that in mind as well when planning.

Here is a little better interior shot of the black one previously pictured.

I noticed the safes are on wheels, I realize they would be impossible to move if they didnt have wheels, but cant someone just wheel them away?

How far can you wheel a safe that weighs almost a ton? You’re not going to lift it up with any number of guys and just toss it in the back of your pick-up. If you do show up with the necessary heavy duty equipment to attempt to remove this I assure you will find a few surprises.

NOTHING is 100% invincible. Gun safes just buy you time; some buy you more than others.
