This dude looks like he needed to be set on fire with a taser.

By the looks of him, they should have used some high-octane gas to help douse the flames.

Interesting tidbit...that's actually the reason PD's went to OC sprays with non-flammable propellants. There were a number of documented instances where a subject was hit with OC and then burst into flames when a taser was applied.

Companies that make many other aerosol products don't really intend for the user to huff them, which means they don't really design their products with a future tasering of the person using them in mind.

He's got that Charlie Manson look.

Re: OC... Reminder: Folks using both aerosols and tasers should test their sprays for flammability regardless of manufacturer claims. Some have been caught lying. Some won't lie, but will change a formulation and not tell you.

Agencies that border or support each other should also make sure that their product is non-flammable, even if they don't issue tasers. You never know when one will show up.

We actually had a situation like that... Troop rolled up to support a local officer, turned into a struggle and the Troop had used an alcohol based OC as the city officer deployed his Taser

End result was the suspect winning a large settlement and our Troops changing to a different OC

Yeah, my Dept used to issue Cap-Stun but had to switch to one with a non-alcohol carrier once we bagan to issue tasers, as they would ignite if first sprayed and then tased. Although I always figured that they'd get pretty compliant pretty quickly! :D

Interesting discussion topic for meetings of admin types and RM folks, esp interagency meetings:

Given two or more agencies with concurrent jurisdiction over an area, engaged in a joint operation, is the agency issueing a flammable OC product but no taser more compelled to switch product, or is the agency deploying tasers in that are more compelled to refrain from ECW use?

Enjoy the blank stares in reply. Bring popcorn. Get it on video if you can.
