Cutting 18" barrel to 16," need to open up gas port?

Just wondering if anyone has cut a 18" barrel to 16" and if so, did the gas port need to be altered.

To be specific, this is a LMT MRP 18" SS 5.56 barrel with a mid-length gas system.
