That's F*cking Scary Man!
Wow, that is absolutely amazing!!! Do you want me to forward that to my mother (a biologist with entomology degree) to see if it can be identified?
First question is how many legs does it have???

Well hell yeah man, what are you waiting on!?
Number of legs? Well...that's relative.

Some kind of leaf mimic Todd:

OK, that would about creep me the hell out...
I can deal with bats flying around the bed room at 3am, but just what the hell is that thing????

phobetron pithecium larvae
No legs. It undulated along its belly while moving. I watched it the whole ride home from Caribou Coffee to my house. It just stuck to the windshield, the little "leaf/leg" things blowing like crazy.
It's probably about 2/3 the size of the palm of my hand.
Thanks for the definitive answer, KLD. Oddly enough, when I tried to answer my question by throwing my scrabble set on the ground, it spelled out the exact same thing.
edited to add: Yes, it was still alive last I knew. I didn't touch it and assumed it wasn't in need of killing. It was clearly non-aggressive (or at least lacked the ability to jump, spit, or otherwise hurt me) while I was taking photos of it from 2-3" away.

Googled it. Before you decide to bring it home for the kids as the new family pet, consider what I just found:
"Larva(e)
This dark brown, hairy caterpillar is easy to recognize because of the nine pairs of fleshy appendages protruding from its body. The hagmoth larva is another of the slug caterpillars which have urticarial hairs and can produce serious dermatitis (stinging rash) when handled. Hagmoths are usually found singly feeding on low branches of shrubs and deciduous trees (oaks, other hardwoods, etc.).
Clemson University - USDA Cooperative Extension Slide Series.
Could be endangered. Just ignore it until it crawls off (unless it ends up on seat, in shoes, etc).
nothing that looks like that should be allowed to live.
With all due respect, it should have been killed . . . then burned. It could have been of alien origin and the start of something really bad.
A few years back I shot a squirrel with a huge growth on it and in dressing and skinning I found this foul larvae creature. I killed it. And burned it. (see above). Then all my "local" friends told me it was just a "wolf larvae" or some such. A parasitic fly. KRIST!
Holy crap that thing was ugly. Is.

Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

Yeah, I know it's a volcano.
No legs. It undulated along its belly while moving.
...reminds me of this time at a strip bar in South Philly...
Nevermind, don't wanna take the thread OT.

I'll have to try this.

With what appears to be 6 pairs of eyes on those appendages, that's gotta be the weirdest looking life form I've ever seen.

Holy crap! That looks like a vampire bat + squid fins + something else. Pretty freaky lookin' for sure.
I wouldn't let that shit crawl on my hand. Crickets/scorpions are my limit.
Now that's freaky looking...I would smash it with one of your many pistols ;)

Someone needs to put these pictures up on Wiki, as they're far better than the ones they currently have.

The one here actually looks different. Does not have the requisite number of "leg"-thing protrusions.

Sorry, couldn't resist. ;)
Todd- Hope you saved it. I think it may be a severely malformed bat. From what I can tell you are in MD? How about sending it to the NC Zoo? I'm a bio major and have extensive entomological experience in ugrad research and can say the NC Zoo has one of the finest entomology programs as well as a major bat program. At least send it to a U of MD entomology professor. I really hope you still have it.
It could possibly be dormant and crawl into an ear canal where it will asexually multiply.:D However, from what I have heard, it may be able to sexually reproduce in your house due to the owners proclivities.:p

This made my day. Thank you. That thing looks like something from "The Wrath of Khan." I would not want it crawling on me. Nice pics' by the way.

That's funny, I actually laughed out loud.

Not a possum. Or chupacabra. Don't kill it "with fire". Drink a beer with it. Then see if it provides more beer. If not, kill it.

You should take some camcorder shots of the creature and send them to SyFy I am sure they would make a movie of the creature and you would get paid royalties from the movie. Title: The Leaf Monster from the Unknown. :D
Maybe the little pointy things are like udders. Try to milk it! :D
That's great! Cthullu was my first thought when I saw the pics.

LOL, crazy creature!
i don't know which response was better...burn it, nuke it, have a beer with it, or milk it. :D

This is just great.
Anyway, it is a Mountain Moth-Leaf-Slug common in many northeastern areas.
Just kidding. No clue WTF it is.

Oh, yeah,... and definitely kill it with fire.
God damn that thing is nasty looking. Please airlift it to the middle east as a gift.
OK - majority of votes seem to be in favor of killing it, but before you use the H&K 9mm on it, wouldn't it be a good idea to move it off the windshield of your car first?
There is something ridiculously hilarious about a bunch of guys who log in to talk about their macho plans for dealing with home invasions, muggings, zombie invasions, etc. ... but who scream "kill it, kill it!" like little girls when they see a harmless bug. :p
