View Full Version : Rail Choice help - AR10 16"
I'm not typically undecided on gear choice, but on this one I am, mainly because I have never installed or seen a Troy rail up-close.
My choices:
1) SWS E1 Rifle length rail - $345 + $16 S&H - 12.890" - 15.8oz.

2) Daniel Defense 12.0 AR10 Lite - $399 + $19.00 Wrench + $8.01 S&H - 18.1oz - 12"

3) Troy MRF-308 FDE - $335 + $10.57 S&H - no weight specified - 13.8" (includes barrel nut & lo-pro gas block)

If you have used these rails on either an AR15 or AR10, please elaborate on why you think each will be superior.
I have a Troy MRF on my midlength BCM. I like it. Installation was super easy and did not require the removal of the barrel nut or FSB.

Is it a two piece rail? I thought the MRF was the one with the interface piece on the barrel nut, but was otherwise one piece.

I have a Noveske marked SWS rail on my AR10. It was the longest one I could find, and I wanted it to cover the gas block. It has worked very well.

Having installed quite a few of them I highly recommend the AR10 DD Lite Rail.
The MRF is a 2 piece rail, the new rail they just came out with is the one piece one. I had 2 carbine length ones on my first 2 ARs, a RRA and DPMS (I know, I know) and I liked the quality. They were the nicest things on those rifles, and the rails were in spec. For the price compared to higher end rails, they were nice enough, but I've moved on to DD and Larue.
ETA: I know nothing about the SWS, but I have the DD 12.0 lite on a BCM midlength. The only reason I would go with the Troy is the cost savings, other than that, I would go with the DD.

Yes. Militarymorons has a very nice review of it if you want to check it out there. The reason I got it is because G&R had it on their open box sale page for $175.
Having installed quite a few of them I highly recommend the AR10 DD Lite Rail.
Any experience at all with the Troy MRF rails on AR15's or AR10's??

I've installed 2 or 3 Troys, I'm much more impressed with the quality of the DD rail.
