What do you accomplish besides shortening the sight radius?

I think the peep would be much harder to acquire too.

Too much "stuff" in the sighting plane

I thought so too, but I am gonna try it.

He apparently his a Canadian SF guy in training at Ft Bliss so he might be aware of something we aren't....?

Here is the photo caption:

easier access to the eotech buttons maybe. a fixed BUIS like that can limit access to the buttons, especially if you've only got a flattop and a long AA eotech.

Could be...that is why they are moving them to the side of the unit

The DL sight in the link above or one similar would make sense. A peep sight or ghost ring would be almost useless that far up un my opinion.

It does not appear to be the DL sight, but maybe it uses the same sighting system. If so, I would want it mounted a little further up, but he would have to get a new hand guard for that.

I've seen that exact model of BUIS mounted in front of Elcan optics in pictures of Canadian rifles before.

In a way, it makes some sense. With a fixed BUIS in front of your EO or Aimpoint, it would eliminate any issues with the rear sight obscuring your dot -- the dot would always be visible on top of the iron sights, even if the iron sights were covering the intended target.

That's what I thought!
